If Arc Minerals were to continue as a subsidiary of Anglo American rather than having its assets acquired and ceasing to exist, then it would be essential to align reporting dates. This would enable the business to carry on with its projects with full ownership and funding from AA. All staff with their expert knowledge could be retained. This is the only scenario in which a reporting date alignment would be required as far as I can see.

I don’t see the need for account alignment for a JV only. My money (literally) is on an acquisition. I fully expect confirmation any day now with a suspension RNS hence I’m topping up while I can.

The realignment of the accounting date to that of AAs is entirely consistent with standard accounting practice relating to ARCM becoming a subsidiary of AA. Otherwise why would they bother doing it now?

Thanks for the reference! Good to know that there is scope to raise Li prices. I assume then that there is currently a high labour and overhead cost which will be reduced by automation? Volume itself doesn’t reduce costs significantly unless there are production efficiencies.

There was some discussion on the affordability of EVs and the assumption that battery prices would fall significantly. No one is prepared to explain how this battery cost reduction will be achieved as there is no sign of metal prices decreasing. I rather think that corporate buyers will be forced into electrifying fleets by legislation or social conscience and have to pay a price similar to what is currently listed. For consumers maybe a subscription model for those without ready cash? I simply don’t see the price of lithium and nickel being squeezed in the forecast undersupply situation.

From what I can see that looks like finger trouble? There was a subsequent reversal and a purchase of the same value following the sale. Looks more like a vote of confidence that went wrong?

I suspect that this may just be a morale-boosting exercise which the board feel is required to keep investors onside? When things are inevitably taking longer than expected and there are no facts to publish, they may feel a jolly-up is called for? I’m not expecting any more than that so remain patient and invested to the hilt!
