I am sure there are many factors that affect the concentration of Helium. Presumably for the medium that moves it, we want to see CO2, CH4 and ground water in the mix, not N2 or H2. And we wouldn't hang around for HE in the case of the gas being the latter mix (?!)
When they run a sample through the chromatograph, will the ppm value be for the gases alone, not the mud or any of it's constituents?
Also, can you make an assumption that this concentration increases the deeper you go, so that a sample taken at depth y1 can be extrapolated to a higher value deeper towards the source (y2), and vary according to what it picks up or sheds on the way up?
