Many thanks for such a comprehensive reply. Clearly there are many moving parts, perhaps a few more than in my own property development appraisals in my day job, but the principles are all the same.
I find it extremely odd concerning and perhaps underhand that only part of the input information as to viability is provided without taking it to a conclusion. Even if not definitive, and I understand why this is the case, an outline series of sensitivity analyses would have been helpful.
I think the broad assumption of others that $6/lb is viable is extremely optimistic.
Equally, the assumption that a sale to a larger corporate will deliver scale economies, whilst possible, does not mean that it will be passed on. Hopefully at some stage there will be a bidding war for the asset at which this assumption might be tested.
