The guidance mirrors the guidance issued by pretty much every single company this year. Companies are uncertain and very cautious at the moment, or should I say, they are certain or uncertainty. But so far the metrics that have been coming out show that many of the worries have ended up much better than expected. It’s like saying now it’s nearly April, the NI increase will come in soon. Hardly takes a a genius to work that out, it’s not a secret that everyone has missed..Trump is a typical alpha, comes in, shows he’s boss but once the job of dominance is done he will sit back and f*** his b****’s in layman’s terms. Stability will come once heads bow.

The market today won’t see past ‘Nike is down so JD must be down’ so hopefully they will pick up when American markets open but I agree, what I am reading seems positive for here. The costs of Nikes overhaul are their own, but the benefits of product innovation are shared and their decline in China is no issue.

There is good and bad to take. In store sales were mostly flat year on year (some also increased) and the big reductions in sales have come from online and direct to customer due to their move back to retail partners. Both benefit Jds strategy. They are also moving to full price sales for new stock (once old stock is ‘liquidated’ through their outlets), which would make JD more competitive as we don’t discount either, one of the reasons why we didn’t do as well against those retailers who did discount heavily at Christmas. That said, I can see a 2-5% drop today depending how badly they want to force this down. A hold at 80p or above would be good should nike and the wider market have a good day.

Might get dragged down with it because the market has found any excuse to hammer us but the biggest issue highlighted for Nike is a large China revenue decline, which isn’t an issue here. They are also taking stock back from wholesalers and liquidating it as part of the re-launch strategy so again any p/l reduction will be suffered by Nike and not retailers. Economic uncertainty and consumer confidence (etc) also touted as risks however the metrics so far this year have indicated that the concerns have been massively overblown.

‘Better than the market predicted’ seems to be the message.

Had a couple of nibbles at 80p today… on the way down it took quite a few attempts to drop past it so could be a bit of resistance on the way back up, let’s see tomorrow. Didn’t think we would be anywhere near here before results last Thursday when it was 71p mind so no complaints.

On a record year of £1bn+ which realistically won’t be this year coming but could be next year, I see no reason why this shouldn’t be comfortably £2+ a share but a lot out of our control for that to happen.

I’m sure anyone looking for value in the FTSE100 are seeing all these other shares at 1 year highs and then spotting JD down 50% in 6 months making £900m+ and the UK economy doing much better than anticipated and wondering why they have even been given the opportunity to buy this cheap. It was already oversold at 92p on the last profit warning.
