Are BP buying back 6 Billion shares? I will look again, are they really buying back nearly a third of the shares in issue? If so I apologise but I have missed that.
The normal issue with buybacks, and I do support buybacks, is that a company will carry out a buyback, say £1.5 Billion, stop and then spend the next 12/24 months issuing "new" shares as bonuses or pension benefits.
I will look again at BP's statement regarding buybacks.
