BP has been a great share to have and hold and at this price point it still is. People think oil & gas is dead but BP should continue to thrive well after I'm "brown bread"
I'm excited by the future, oil is here to stay but so are other technologies, battery, solar and the one I'm really interested in Hydrogen.
I hope BP takes a pivotal role in the supply of hopefully "green" Hydrogen and then we really could see the SP climb.

I'm not having a pop at you and there's nothing I'd like more than seeing the shares in issue decrease but I've seen buybacks happen on multiple shares and things never normally go to plan.
As an example if oil prices fall normally buybacks are the first things to be sacrificed, then as new shares are issued any benefit is lost.
Hopefully BP will lead the way on future "green" energy supply and with the buybacks we will get the SP growth we all desire!

There's nearly 20 Billion shares in issue, virtually unchanged over the last 10 years.
BP announce a $1.5 Billion buyback, so roughly 250 Million shares.
More shares will be issued for bonuses and pension benefits.
Unless huge continuous buybacks are carried out the SP will NOT reach £10.

Are BP buying back 6 Billion shares? I will look again, are they really buying back nearly a third of the shares in issue? If so I apologise but I have missed that.
The normal issue with buybacks, and I do support buybacks, is that a company will carry out a buyback, say £1.5 Billion, stop and then spend the next 12/24 months issuing "new" shares as bonuses or pension benefits.
I will look again at BP's statement regarding buybacks.

There's a reason why this won't be a £10 a share company and that is as it currently stands it is not a £200 Billion MCAP business,
It could be,
If we take a leading role in the Hydrogen economy and/or a large number of shares are bought back and destroyed we could be, but anyone talking of this happening either this or next year are dreaming.

I am bullish on BP but this is NOT a £10 a share company, not without massive change and 100% correct investments, only time will tell us this.
As for being taken over, no chance, someone would have to offer a minimum of £5 a share so £100 Billion to even to be taken seriously and no one's going to do that for what is still a predominantly oil & gas company.
If anybody was going to do that ExxonMobil SHOULD have done it 10 years ago after Macondo.

Don't worry it isn't going to happen, it's yesterday's news, come tomorrow it'll all be forgotten about.
Governments can't go moving the goal posts "just like that" as any company considering moving to Britain will swiftly change their minds.

There's no chance of a so called "windfall tax", total rubbish..........
Companies make huge investments based on multiple factors, and in oil & gas years in advance.
Governments cannot start moving the goalposts just because commodity prices have risen.
This is a certain way of companies avoiding doing business in Britain.

BP's profits compared to revenue is a lot less than many companies, and the risks are much greater.

Agree with you here, and the $90 oil won't be reflected until the next set of figures, and if that price holds it'll all be extra profit.
No way am I selling at this price.

A load of shares have fallen on America's opening.
BP is not the only share effected.

BP doesn't set the price, BP is a relatively small player in a global market.
Countries like Saudi Arabia, Russia etc in effect control supply and therefore the price.
If you want to blame anybody, and as someone stated earlier blame successive UK governments who have not taken the opportunity of exploiting this Countries gas assets.
And I think the word you were looking for was "inflation"

I think BP have played this perfectly.
Personally speaking a slight increase in divi would have been nice but increasing it would have just added to the media hostility.
The press, and public need to realise BP does not set oil & gas prices.
Also don't forget BP is a global company with much of its profits coming from countries other than the UK.
If you beat something to hard with a big stick it has the potential to get up and move.

There's obviously no guarantees but the world is trying to get back to normal after Covid, and the tightening of capex budgets etc is starting to push up prices, if you don't desperately need the money then maybe sell half?
If it does then drop you haven't totally missed out and if it does continue to rise you still have a few to benefit.
Don't forget that if you bought at sub £3 as dividends increase your % return will be very nice!
