Friedman and the other billionaire shareholders were a pain in the arris trying to dictate to BP how things should be done and they even blocked the artic exploration between BP and Rosneft in I think 2011.

If people are looking at BP as a long term hold, today is a great buying opportunity.
The unrest today will end and things will get back to "normal", dividends will continue to be payed and the SP should rise.
I bought shares yesterday, 2 companies, but not BP this time, do I regret my decision? NO, I could have bought both cheaper today and therefore gained more shares but these are sound companies and I have invested for the long term.
It's only the "traders" who are pushing trying to catch the lowest entry point.

It won't get messy with sanctions, IF sanctions are implemented which stop BP collecting its 5th share (approx) of profits / divi it will just be held onto until sanctions are lifted.
Apparently BP does take some Rosneft oil and we will have to wait and see what happens there.
I am NOT concerned really about BP, they are a money making machine which will continue making huge sums of money despite what is happening.
I am more concerned about the escalation and loss of life which if I'm honest I did not expect.

And on top of that he already holds 76,000,000......

If you use these boards wisely you will note that there are posters here, and on virtually all boards which can benefit your research greatly.
Unfortunately there are those who post opinions with nothing to back it up, and those who admit they are not invested yet are here every day continually posting negative comments.
Negative comments can be beneficial when evidence is provided which WE can check, you never know you may have missed something!
The likes of the "green root vegetable" and caitlin are NOT here for your benefit!

I've just had a buy but unfortunately it was NOT that 3.5million trade!

Under 3%, that's hardly "freefall" is it. If you want to see freefall look at yesterday's Synairgen chart!
Anyway the markets were always going to suffer a shock today because of the amount of "flappers" who sell on bad news when they would make more money buying and then selling on good news.

But if you ignore the "flappers" that 15% decline is a buying opportunity, and not necessarily just here, but multiple shares.

Over $10 a barrel increase for starters, over 10,000,000 barrels a day.
Gas prices through the roof.
Russia is the holy grail for commodity companies, oil & gas, mining.
Much of it is just waiting to be exploited.

I think if oil prices stay at levels above say $85 I think we will get an increase in the dividend next quarter, BP will be awash with cash.
But I would really love to see BP pay down it's debt and keep the minimum amount possible.
With regard to buybacks they only work if they are done continously quarter after quarter, year after year.
If not and they are stopped any benefits are lost through the issuing of new shares for staff bonuses and pension schemes.
Would be nice to get the share pile down say 20% and keep going then any money set aside for dividends is then distributed between less shares.

There's plenty of cash and several of the projects are going to be "listed" / IPO'd.
Have a look through "Tray's" history, he wrote a really good piece not so long ago on the company finances.

The great unknown is future oil prices!
But all the time BP is making good money buybacks will continue, debt will be reduced, hopefully further M&A activity will add growth, and if oil prices stay really high you never know, there could be a jump in the dividend.
I would like to see a "strong" BP, ready for the future challenge, achieve this and SP growth will happen.

Roger is only right in so much that it probably WILL be results that drive this share price forwards.
The thing is patience is the key here, we can all see the POTENTIAL quality of the portfolio, we can see the work, drilling etc being carried out, core samples are in for ASSAY testing, it is hopefully only a matter of time.
If you were invested here and you never heard anything for 6 months and the progress was "glacial" then you have every right to moan.
I don't want to criticise anyone here but if you want INSTANT results, don't invest in an AIM listed explorer, put it in Rio Tinto or BHP.
