I wouldn't like to go there.
But benefits SHOULD be a safety net ONLY not a lifetime option.

Why don't we just go back to the early 70's and all the high earners will just dissappear.
What they need to do is sort out all the tax loopholes, rich individuals registering themselves as companies, offshore etc and sort out the benefits system.

With BP paying down debt and reducing shares in issue the SP will climb and the dividends will go up.
I would love more dividend returns BUT it would be political suicide at the moment.

Again not saying LBG are not a buy, at 45p I agree but if you take the divis in cash YOU CAN CHOOSE what to do.
I see people who hold say 500,000 of 1 company only and I see risk, I hold here and I probably won't sell as they supplement my retirement but if things turn to "rat sh.1te" and the divi gets turned off I have other sectors paying me dividends, reducing my risk.
Obviously it's only my opinion and different things suit different people.

That's for individual investors to decide, I have my own opinions.
Can't blame anyone for buying more LBG but I personally think there's better buys and spreading risk if people only hold 1 or 2 companies is a good thing.

A rare event but I agree with you here.
Take the dividend in cash and buy what share you want and when.
I'm not saying that Lloyds are not a "buy" at the moment, but there's other companies I'd prefer to increase my holdings of, and I will be when the divi's are paid.

When I look at the metrics here I cannot see any justification in selling.
Yes people can derisk but I cannot see many other homes for that money without risk.
Fair enough if peeps are over exposed or need the money, but I am more than happy to hold here.
Oil prices will vary and the SP will go up and down to suit but BP is not the company it was in the dark days of 2020 with negative oil, low gas prices and very high debt levels.
I'm happy to hold and if I'm honest I wish I'd bought more sub £4.....

Anything north of $80 oil and BP is raking it in.
Lots of buybacks, a rising divi and reducing debt.
FWIW I will call £5 this year.

Well done for taking some off the table.
Looking at the way the world is heading with energy prices I'm happy to continue holding.
I derisked much of my holding in 2018 at £5.77 and above.
I am more than happy to continue to hold at these levels as IMO this WILL go north of £5 this year.
I will continue to monitor the news and the company's performance and react accordingly but I'm certainly not selling yet.

We would all "prefer" no raises but the cash has to come in from somewhere.
If there is stuff going on in the background that we don't know about, and these raises strengthen our hand then great.
Let's also remember the raises were at full SP. That is mega rare on AIM, the last Greatland Gold raise (last week) was at -15% less than market price dragging the SP down to that level.....

We could see lots of things in 2023 but the whole point of investing in shares and not just leaving money in the bank is that WE generally weigh up the risk Vs reward ratio and invest accordingly.
When I look at my portfolio the commodity stocks are the LAST things I'll be selling.

Unfortunately it is the joys of getting old..

With world energy prices where they are, BP making a shed load of money, BP buying back millions of shares EVERY DAY, and BP paying of debt I will be shocked if the share price isn't north of where it is now.

Plenty of videos online showing Russia is just fine. Low fuel prices etc.
I suppose the only way to truly know is from people who have friends who live and work out there, but I certainly do not believe everything western media puts out.
