'Question is, when did they first mention it? Only after revenues began to decrease, and not before. This makes it more of an ad-hoc explanation ‐ perhaps an excuse - than the planned effect, caused by enacting some new plan.'
This is somewhat true, but also unfair as what else could they have done after the fact? Would you have preferred them not to react to the changing economic landscape. Its true that their business model was disrupted, but even if its reactive, we all wanted them to shift focus to profitability
'For contrariness to really rebut the market view, you'd need to have thought hard, asked very searching questions, and then found solid answers for why the market is wrong. But there's no evidence here of anyone having done that.'
I'm not so sure about this. The market is so short term focused at the moment where I think good businesses have been beaten down due to transitory headwinds and pressures. Surely if you are planning to go long on a business that has had disruption in its business model then you are not trying to outwit the market, but trying to see past the short term doom and gloom to the future potential of said business.
