Wolves, welcome back aboard buddy!
It's going to be a long and drawn out battle between K and the board.
I see that posts on Twitter by a few journalists are already mentioning his previous ties to Russia.
They do like to stir the pot, don't they!!
Personally I think he'll make another offer around 350 mark. Doubtful that'll be acceptable, especially to some on here who got in at the high 400s expecting it to go back to 600😂😂😂
It'll be a good few years IMHO before the Labour government review the USO. Starmer will undoubtedly be taking soundings from Dave Ward on what is and isn't acceptable. I doubt very much we'll see much more than a reduction to 5 days delivery of mail and 7 days parcels. How much of a saving will that achieve?? I'm not convinced with how things are being run currently, it's going to be a huge saving.
On delivery, I'm not sure about agency pay rates ,but it might explain the conveyor belt of either young kids just out of school/college and or those over 60 trying to supplement their pension.
Neither stay long due to the nature of the work.
We don't see many family men/woman any more, I suppose the lack of consistency in hours makes the job less attractive?!!?

"pushing an empty York around the Mail Centre without any managers noticing or questioning what they were doing"
Not for the first time it's apparent that an element of the employees were or are "swinging the lead"
Human nature I'm afraid. If the individuals aren't given specific tasks it's to be expected. Many of these guys are agency, don't have a clue what's expected of them and need micro managing to get any sort of benefit from using them.
We had 4 agency guys who just stood around when the wagons came in,hadn't got a clue so we told them just to go a sit in the canteen till all the IPS was sorted.
It really is a combination of bad training and lack of oversight by managers IMHO
Ultimately, from a shareholders perspective it's a sad indictment of how the company is managed and money down the drain!
We're lucky as although the routes are predominantly rural, we are adjacent to the mail centre. Offices 20/30 miles up the road are looking at 90 minute later starts if they're lucky and no traffic hold-ups.
I can see these offices having big issues in the winter months and unless Ofcom relax the USO the QofS will take a big hit.
Folk in these offices are already saying they want out now,and with recruitment and retention
being a big issue still, the later start and finish times are going to make it worse.
Back off annual leave to the news of our new proposed start finish times
Indicative Start time with pipeline acceleration and 1630 last letter : 06:30
Indicative Finish time with pipeline acceleration and 1630 last letter: 14:15
I'll take that !!!!
Kept away from here for a while, but surprised our resident narcissist hasn't raised his head!
Don't forget to tune in to Panorama next week folks. It's not going to be pretty.
Tate, can you explain then how 37hrs on a 6 day USO equates to an OPG actually doing more work on a 5 day USO. We get paid by the hour not on a piece rate.
You should calm down on that five finger shuffling mate, your posts are becoming more bizarre by the hour. Maybe that's why the spelling and grammer is getting worse and what's with the corny Americanisms?
'Paranoid delusions kicking in there I see. You think that less mail means you lazy militants will be allowed to just ‘go home’ lol.'
Tate, moving from 6 days to 5 is only going to mean that a regular postie on 37hrs is still only going to work 37hrs
Explain to this lazy, militant, Marxist postie
'You’d be out until all hours with parcels spilling out of your van.'
'It could be the end of the road for the government and its denial of the USO, if the independent regulator produce a report recommending changes and they kibosh it……expect a huge legal challenge from Royal Mail and it’s legal team.'
Loooooooooooools!!!!
Is this the same Ofcom who have been repeatedly ignored by everyone?
I'm asking for a' friend' who's share holding is so underwater he needs a submarine to check on his losses lols
Tate, if you thought that was embarrassing, you obviously didn't see the Lucy Fraser interview on Sky and LBC. Sending her out to defend the government and Ofcom is like sending out a one legged blind man to open the batting for England at the Gabba!
Somehow I get the feeling that the Tories don't see this as a vote winner lol
I'll stick by my original thoughts that this or the next government will drag their heels and avoid meaningful changes to the USO in the near future!
Tate, you must have exhausted that box of tissues mopping up after you read the reports on Ofcoms proposals.
Why have you've got yourself into this heightened level of excitement over something that has been reported on for months?
We have had monthly meetings with our area manager for the last 6 months at Branch level. Do you not think that they discuss these issues?
We've been told by our regional manager that it's only deliveries that will go to a 5 day week. Distribution and collections will still need to done as they currently operate. Someone asked then where the savings come from then as most are only delivering their letters 5 days a week now??
Strangely he didn't answer and moved on!
From a personal point of view I'm working Mon -Fridays and with just a 15 minute planned earlier start none of this is going to make much difference.
RG, yep, taking 20 minutes at the end of your shift was always a national thing. It went pear shaped when job and finish was introduced as loads of folk skipped the whole break and took the whole 40 mins at the end of the shift. Some still do and even with OA, managers turn a blind eye.
Not withstanding it goes against the working time directive that says as a minimum 20 minutes has to be taken in the middle of the shift.
Bendy, we're not delivering letters 6 days a week now. The USO won't be reduced until RM gets it's act together and takes action to improve the QofS.
The Post Office scandal whilst not directly anything to do with RM will also have an effect. No government will want to be seen agreeing to cutting jobs and services to boost shareholders returns in the postal industry. It's not a vote winner for any party.
Personally I think any reduction will be kicked into the long grass. You might get some agreement to reduce daily delivery to the far flung isles and more out of the way rural areas. But to be honest these areas already suffer the most through lack of available workers and their retention.
Peak or Christmas pressure traditionally started North of the central belt in Scotland mid October after the kids went back to school.
It was always a point of conflict with the gaffers as they were told weeks 36-39 were the only time we could flex up and pay pressure o/t.
Essentially their argument was 'computer says no'
And we all know by now, how reliable RM computer systems are lol
The public see this as just another failure of privatisation.Although not directly connected they see the Post Office scandal as being synonymous with the day to day door step failures of their letters and parcels.
IMHO it will make it even harder for RM to push through any meaningful change to the USO.
