Hello Gerald, smarter than smart as it happens because there was enough information on the OTP to deny the addition of the wrong account altogether so cost me nought. Second time round I accepted his details and only paid the quid. When he can tell me what I paid him I'll know there is less risk of him money laundering, and he won't be able to say the balance never got to him when I pay that.

I am able to get onto the roof from the dormer bathroom so I have been out there to check their work.
It looks good to my eye - one or two ridge tiles look to have a gap between them and the base below them which I might have filled.

Took Poppy out after they left and got hemmed in by the builder (from Broadstone) who was here for a couple of hours and his mate was stung 4 times by wasps. He did not seem too surprised or upset that the new guy (from Poole) had been and finished the work off, which was surprising to me! Everyone has been English that has been used (6 people in all) so at least I am backing Britain if I have paid through the nose!

Oh no it wasn't! Just remembered I took my wife to Dorchester Plaza last year and we saw "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" for £2.50 each plus a 30p each booking fee. Expected a flea pit but it was lovely! Unfortunately it was a very quiet film (and I was a part time projectionist at my local cinema through my A levels) which meant I my hearing was invaded by "Rampage" on the adjoining and it sounded like almost perpetual JCB noise which irritated me! Liz never noticed but I told the manager he might listen in and that he had a 75% chance of hearing what I meant, and the picture was out of focus too. We intended to go again one day but alas she was not with us long enough for that. Glad we spoke I have another nice memory of her to dwell on.

Lordy! My mobile just tinkled to say her gmail account had just been used with her password and had been blocked by Gmail. Do they have wifi where she is now? I kept her account going because we have loyalty cards in her name but using my email address - and Tesco clubcard vouchers and Amazon use her email.

Scotty, FP1 and 2 on TV and an interview with Cal was good. Afterwards they said he fell off his push bike and has scraped his right knee quite nastily? You couldn't make it up? This months 'BIKE' compared a speed twin (1200) with a triple and produced graphs of torque v revs! At sensible speeds , the twin outperforms the triple but with a top end of 124mph the triple takes over above a ton (up to 186 mph - terminal velocity due to drag etc they reckon). Well, Cal was saying 5th and 6th gears in Germany are hardly useable so the grunt is what is needed. Sounds similar?

I tried to read the RNS on stage 2 yesterday - but my concentration levels are not good enough to even get through the pre-amble! If any of you got through all 601 pages then I take my hat off to you!

Perhaps it is a good day all round, I had electricity smart meter fitted yesterday and went to bed with 18p showing as my usage. Not bad when I microwaved at 1Kw power for 7 minutes and it was on 12p before I started.
Fridge and Freezer and standbys overnight seemed to have used 11k Kw this morning and the cost per unit was £167!
Turned it off completely abd it happily reset itsel to 30p usage - so 12p overnight!
Gas could not be done - the plastic box on the wall was stuck firm and he did not want to risk breaking it (presumably not covered by Smart Metering insurance?).

My Aud$ is $300 up , and I held both TLOU and SXX to buy CBA from my ISA account instead.
That looks like a successful policy as well? CBA dividends are over a £1 so a price wise seemed inevetuable with an ex-div date somewhere around 12th August historically. AGM due soon I think.

Builders are nearing completion on the roof - roofer arrived at 8:15 which is more like it! He has the ridge tiles to do and the sealing of the valley which should be comfortably done today I'd hope.

When the OTP code came through the account number was missing the last digit - muggins had type 997 instead of 97 and my bank allowed the 9 character code? It would have been terrible if I paid a couple of grand into the wrong account? Not sure if the bank would refund it? So I am happy it is now set up (for £1) will ask him later if he got it in case Friday is still POET's day! Especially seeing I am not expecting them to be here again!

However, as I suspected bank transfers are not subject to the limit (EVEN THOUGH THE BLURB SAYS THEY ARE) so my few pennies overflow can be cleared without having to find £250. A staff member posts the unlimited statement on the link. Like the girl on Hotels.com , I'm still happy. She grows on me more everytime I see her :O)

Was thinking ASX would rise in parallel with AIM so put a limit bid in an hour before trading opened.
Went through on a 105 - 11c spread , same as closing yesterday.
Still like the IG trading platform and terms, cannot believe I am buying from ASX at a lower commission than on the FTSE. Mind you at this rate the UK could reverse that - frequent trader is 9 transactions a quarter which drops their charge from £8 to £5. Have the commission for a ASX transaction but checking deposits from, direct card, Paypal or Bank transfer they all stipulate min £250.
Ridiculous if you're short by a few pence due to the sp or fx rate moving - I cannot see on a Bank Transfer how they can decline a payment of less than £250? Any bankers on here?

Smart meter man is here and could only do the electricity because the gas meter is jammed onto the wall and he does not want to risk breaking it. AND then he asked if he could use the blocked toilet! That website is even more precious now than this morning!

Bike has gone to the workshop, his starting point was £40 battery, £220 tyres, £220 chain and sprocket, if the injection system needs a new pump that could bump it up by hundreds so it could reach a grand or more if there are other problems arising.
He is going to see if it will start after the fuel and oil mixture is drained, cleaned and replaced and give me with a more accurate quote before he does commits me to the above bits. Labour is included in those prices (last chain and sprocket was £115 before labour - they have only gone a few miles) . Front tyre valve had almost disintegrated into a white compound and is split! He said they do that in time - tyre was flat - but being very hard rubber for the speed of the bike it was not obvious. So it has a horrible flat spot!
Builders are back - the roofers that came last night had 4 wasp sticks and left early without saying anything to me!
They are back late afternoon and my project manager has nuked the wasp nest with powder! The nest was under a ridge tile and he was stung last week when he lifted it. His hand was so swollen.

Got smart meters being installed between 1pm and 5pm so this is a busy day for me, will be able to roll the stone back over the front of the cave in a day or two :O)

I had a notification that BT were increasing two of my prices , Sports and TV , and advised I could cancel for free!
I complained that I took broadband with them for the free Sports and would want to leave all their services for free.

Yesterday I was phoned and handed to their "customer retention dept". Result? No increase , no price reduction either , but my mobile phone is now 500 minutes and 1GB from 500Mb and 200 minutes. Nice increase eh :O)
Renewed all my contracts for 18 months to synchronise them.

Roofers have arrived to do the maintenance stuff - cementing, lead and repairs and hope to finish tonight.
Subcontractors from nearby Broadstone so could cost my man a bit? He is back tomorrow to check their work, do the guttering and clean up the moss and muck. La La La post suggests I am paying over the top for labour ( but not as much as Corbyn will charge if he becomes PM) - I have two guys here in their 40's or 50's so they are hopefully going to know their job. And everyone is speaking English and not cacker so are not cheap labour maybe.

My roofers have not appeared yesterday or today so it is making me wonder if Police involvement has persuaded them to move on to pastures new? Their ladders are still here so I guess not? Perhaps my next move is to ask the neighbours is theyare missing a couple of ladders, cos I might have found some snakes to go with them.

My main worry is if the weather changes -the roof is no longer watertight for sure.

Perhaps I should ask for quotes on the remaining work - and run the gauntlet a second time?

We used to take Poppy to dog agility at Corfe Castle funnily enough - Purbeck Agility! We registered as dog 26 and when the late Terry (rip) asked her name he said - Poppy 5!
Until then we had not realised it was the most popular cat and dog name (at that time, maybe).
Shame I cannot resume that, it was only £5 for an hour, and Poppy was good on the high course (7ft in places) but I had to run round with her and walking is probably too much now!

Still pondering how to raise my CBA stake. My ISA will lose 90 days interest if I use some from there, and I don't want to sell either SXX or TLOU at the current shameful prices. Have had the Police at the house this afternoon. My roofer dropped his lad off to continue scraping the moss off the tiles today and left. He reappeared late afternoon and asked if I'd mind talking to one of my beighbours out the front who had called the Police?

Her daughter spotted the lad on the roof, and when mum turned her car round she thought he ducked around the back to hide. He'd already told me he was calling it a day and maybe the boss was due to pick him up?
Did not know the neighbour who lives on a nearby side road but she had the Police control room on her phone.
The police-woman suggested what I knew deep down, don't accept work from door knockers.

I agreed £50 to clean and clear the gutters but once they started doing them I was shown how several ridge tiles were relying on gravity to keep them in place because the mortar had disintegrated or was never used!

The valley between two roofs had loose mortar along it too, and he recommended replacing the whole valley!
He said the price would normally be £6k but he'd knock off £500 because I know Scotty or something.

Eventually he agreed he could just reline the valley with new mortar and the price reduced to £2450.
I paid him £250 deposit, having had 3 or 4 man days of labour scraping moss of the roof and cleaing the gutters.

The balance is not payable until the work is complete.

He has just returned and offered to release me from the deal and we filled out his form. He said he would call it quits at £250 and not charge me any more. His intentions on the work sound very consistent he has not offered to anything that he has reneged upon yet. I have a written contract saying exactly what he will provide and that £2200 is only paybale at completion.
I could without this tbh but the roof is looking so much better without the moss, and the valley looks perfect now it is clean. The edges were inadequate for sure so I hope I will have headed off future problems if I go ahead.

I can cancel by giving him a phone call - would you? He said their prices are not the cheapest but the quality is good.
I think I trust him so it comes down to my ability to spot a rotter? His lad worked hard in very hot conditions - I can hear the scraping of course. And scraping is the proper way to clear moss because high pressure hoses damage the roof! Fingers crossed!
