Point 1 council tax isn't totally regressive it based in the value of yr home which in most cases equals wealth. I agree VAT is too high but if you want free healthcare, education, welfare and pensions we need it at 20%. Many necessities are zero rate btw like bread and meat. On Ur last point I wholly agree if you have big government trying to provide everything inevitably the poor will pay a disproportionate proportion of their income in tax since there aren't enough rich ppl to tax. Levi I sincerely don't understand why anyone would buy a paper. I used to read the FT but even that has gone to the dogs.
