China played this card (briefly) against Japan in 2010 in a fishing dispute ballooning the Rare Earths price as a consequence.

Other countries aren't in a position to simply "make it happen" - remember that China is not just a major source of unprocessed Rare Earths but THE major supplier of *processed* (i.e. usable) Rare Earths.

Processing Rare Earths is very, very dirty and nobody wants that in their backyard - which is why China has it to begin with.

I'd assume it's on a consultancy basis only but getting paid for it obviously.

Know-how I imagine - perhaps UK Gov is looking to scupper China's stranglehold and/or give the UK a foothold over there to achieve the same.

The SPAC is only half of the story here remember - Cotec's recycling numbers were stellar at current rare earth prices and neodymium is doing very nicely this year so far.

Don't rule out an aggressive takeover bid here by a major manufacturer in a monster industry like cars/military - it could happen overnight.
