RE: Zinc Bromide Flow Battery23 Jan 2018 09:15
Was in a little rush this morning, a few problems with other chemistry:-
Zinc Bromine, 2 elements....the zinc bromine flow battery if the membrane fails you have to replace all the electrolyte, plus the battery will stop working, with a pure Vanadium battery the cross contamination will make little differance, just replace the membrane....REDT has the safest flow battery thecnology
Also this which was written about redflow who have same chemicals mix:-
Redflow Is Building a Small Flow Battery for Long-Duration Storage in Homes
They had better be very, very, very sure that no bromine will ever leak out and cause problems.
At the same time, though, Redflows choice of electrolyte is potentially problematic, because bromine is corrosive and toxic at room temperature.
They had better be very, very, very sure that no bromine will ever leak out and cause problems, said Michael Aziz, a professor of materials and energy technologies at Harvard, who is working on safe flow batteries for household use.
Then again, he added, Tesla has to be very, very, very sure that their lithium-ion battery wont ever cause a house to burn down.
