RE: Governor Mike Dunleavy Press Conference on LNG legislation!21 May 2026 19:39
Fatty,
Monday's deal (governor's agreement to approve/sign a public employee pension bill in exchange for passage of the LNG pipeline bill) never made it to a vote. Because the governor's power to veto the pension bill expired at midnight Monday, he vetoed it nine minutes after the legislature adjourned at 10:30 PM. No further progress was made on Tuesday, the final day of the legislative session. The governor then immediatley called a special 30-day legislative session and, as was his prerogative, confined its business to gas line bill. As of two hours ago, there were no further developments, but the sausage-making will now likely continue for days in the hope of getting a final LNG bill completed for a vote. The governor is term-limited and will be out of office at year-end. As he was a tireless cheerleader for the project, it is unlikely that his successor will work nearly as hard. The project will likely fail if not passed now.
