Professor John Oxford was a terrific show illuminating virology, and with companies around the world searching for solutions, his foundation (originally Retroscreen Virology, later nVivo) appears to be as close as anyone to success. My focus is on the orphan drugs databases, but it's hard to argue that this substantial flu work, and wider virus expertise, has less value.

Presumably you mean interest from us, or from buyers like Griffiths? Griffiths interest is encouraging, but in truth we have no real insight into how much interest there is from buyers, just speculation.

I'm surprised by that opinion, Nanoco have said themselves that they have no alternative to InP:

I think it is interesting to consider the downside of a sell-side process because there is a long standing question mark over why Nanos apparently world beating tech has failed to catch fire over an extended period. Any company interested in it now has an opportunity for a really detailed look, and can confirm for themselves any barriers to successful commerciality. So what happens if the FSP concludes with no buyers? I suggest that could make the future difficult, and would certainly limit the companies options and reduce the SP. Like everyone here, I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but I think it's worth considering.

Samsung can't be ruled out as a buyer, but I think they have probably had a very good understanding of Nanos tech for years, and have repeatedly rejected it - the only reason for bidding now would be as a defensive measure.

Read more carefully. I didn't suggest Nanoco paid inducement fees, merely that it was possible. Anyway they are permissable by the Takeover Panel under certain circumstances during an FSP, so not sure which law would be broken.
I merely mentioned it to illuminate how a sellers side process is different from the conventional takeover you keep portraying. Similarly: no offer period has commenced, because no offer has been announced - the process doesn't work that way.

Such a scenario would not be a takeover. Even if it is a breakup we are still not in a "takeover offer period" now, why pretend otherwise? ALL FSP's are initiated by the seller, that's the whole point: it is different from the conventional takeover you keep imagining.

We're not in a takeover offer period. It's one thing to have an ultra-positive opinion, but quite another to say things which are misleading. The Formal Sale Process is a sale-side process initiated by the seller, not by buyers, and it's possible Nanoco even paid inducement fees to participants. The FSP actually allows for withdrawal from the process without announcing anything, and could conclude with no offers. If successful, the FSP will end with one recommended bidder. In terms of a conventional takeover, that is when the offer period will begin, and then others, even those who did not participate in the FSP, are able to make counter offers.

Why is that ? Plenty of companies share prices have soared due to perceived value, especially based on the data they hold. CF's big original selling point for ORPH was the databases (has he forgotten though?).

Opened at 6.2, way ahead of the 6.05 previous close, it's been down and up since then, but the current 3.72% looks like a surge to me. Waiting until profits are reported doesn't seem like a winning strategy - it will be too late by then - buy on the potential. You are right that value hasn't been conclusively demonstrated yet, but the purchase of Hvivo only just completed, so expecting immediate gratification is very very, very very, very very very ... unacceptable.

ARM don't make chips, that's a misconception. I invested in them and made money, but it was disappointing as a shareholder to see them bought out and taken private. Nanoco are a very different company, who have never come close to emulating ARMs incredible success. Although we all see their potential, it is unwise to ignore the downside, make false comparisons, and get overenthusiastic about the more favourable possibilities. It is misleading to assert assumptions as if they were facts, as many are doing on this board, and it is unwise to ignore all the other possibilities.

Now, about Cathal: first of all, he's already identified and implemented revenue enhancing and cost saving measures at Venn. He has moved extremely quickly with this, as he seems to do with everything. Expecting him to have made Hvivo profitable overnight is idiotic and naughty, and anyone complaining about that not happening yet should be silenced and banned from the board forever - nah, only joking. Give him a chance, everyone needs a chance?

Maybe the real downside for Pru here is not the coronavirus but the Chinese government's response to it. They apparently arrested people who first reported the disease online, and blocked foreign media from warning people about it. This delayed vital early preventative action and allowed it to get out of control. Subsequently they downplayed it's extent and significance then suddenly indulged in draconian actions like locking down a city of 11 million people without much evidence of any logistical planning or common sense regarding supplies. It is difficult to do business in a country where the self-appointed rulers always seek to protect their own interests, even ahead of public health concerns: it leads to confusion and inconsistency, and destroys trust and confidence.

Nobody has suggested that, there is obviously value in Nanoco, the question is how much. The Dupont license has generated virtually no revenue for years. I would guess they make more money than Nano do from the deal, but I doubt if they are interested in buying the patents. I think it's a bit odd constantly repeating the quantity of patents too, as if they can be measured like potatoes.
