They said that they expected a strong 2nd half having upgraded systems and service offering and expected sales to increase. The SP has declined 130% and I didn’t expect this sorry state of affairs. They better deliver the promised results otherwise it’s another no load of toffee just taking the money out of greed and doing sfa for shareholders w ok o have invested on broken promises… not happy right now….

I fail to see why a company issues an RNS like this tbh. So when these shares were 30p and fell to 20p, why didn’t they publish an RNS saying “we are a useless board and the will drop to 1p” which they have! This makes me angry. No business update for a whole and as the SP rallies, they kill it. I thought there was such a thing as free market and demand vs supply! They are shameless incompetent directors.

Late trade @4.42pm - large sell @ £17.07 (ordinary trade) - don’t understand that pricing as sold @ 50p less per share losing £12k+??? Thoughts? Looks as if someone is expecting a weak opening… perhaps?

Bermondsey - the shorts are hoping to reduce their losses by increasing the positions at higher price in hope there’s something negative in the update. Effectively hoping that the SP will decline as their positions have been mismanaged imho. They will have to close these regardless at some point and it does seem strange I agree. However it’s like someone going long and the SP falls and you buy more to average down in the hope you recoup more as the SP rally’s. They’re punting simply and Currie must ensure there’s substance and positivity in this update proving the strategy is on track although I hope they have something in the pipeline that mitigates potential downside trading such as reduction in planned growth and preservation of capital to strengthen the balance sheet etc. hoping for £18 plus today, maybe £18.05ish…. we shall see…

Bermondsey- it’s a tough call but keeping things simple as a business model generally works. I now think they need to rethink on growth strategy as it carries unknown risk in a recession period…. Slow down the new outlets and focus on existing, improving those which are profitable and closing those not. Look for new niche plays… but reduce capex. I really like Greggs, they’re doing well… cheers

I suspect the next RNS will be crafted to say cost cutting plus capex reduction with shareholders receiving special dividends. Currie knows the market wants something new as does the activists asset managers who are heavily invested. Easy really!

No debt and it’s been very quiet so I’m guessing news in on the horizon of major contract wins? I suspect this will rapidly rise and who knows, 3p and beyond may just happen. Market cap is dire….

This will be up to £19 the next couple of days. Profit taking dragged them back but the shorts will be starting to close soon as the market clearly thinks trading is on par or above consensus, and then real push commences. Once one starts closing the other will scramble quickly too to avoid major margin calls on outstanding stock owed. Today I’ll be happy with a close of £17.60.

Tomorrow is unknown but again shops are extra busy selling at volume. The challenge is when to slow down the growth strategy and return monies to shareholders. It’s a fine balance and I feel they need to stick with what they have and only open new outlets in niche areas. Also they must look to close outlets which are not viable and really focus on improving customer experience with the 2700 or so outlets in the inventory. I’m certain the trading update will be positive and these are ready to take off. Fingers crossed!

Absolutely not! £170mn of direct Stock will need to be purchased and right now the SP remains extremely stable and well above the low of £14.20. Shops remain buoyant and taking in the money so plenty of the downside all ready priced so with solid numbers this is going to jump much higher. Slightly down today but I suspect a close of no less than £17… but risk vs reward is the key and I’m more than happy that the upside reward is absolutely worth the play. More added just now….

It’s great seeing that staff are rewarded for the dedication and hard work at Greggs. Wondering if there will be a pre- results RNS to highlight indicative performance direction to sow the seed for a solid set of record results?

Leaks are inevitable so the next few trading days will likely indicate where numbers sit. I remain bullish that performance is good and regardless, anything around last year's results in a difficult global mess and rising taxes will be excellent all considered. But I’m hoping with expanded market share through increased outlets and diversified product offerings, they will exceed market consensus …

I remain of the opinion this will go from strength to strength with record numbers announced in early January.

Twelve brokers currently have ratings on the company. Their average 12-month price target is £19.98, up 19% from £16.77 today. However, one analysts expects Greggs' share price to skyrocket. They're predicting it to strike £26.70 over the next year, representing a premium of 59% from current levels.

So optimistically as I expect record performance numbers £23 looks realistic in the next few months.

The shorters won’t hold long positions as in simple terms, they would do a cfd only. These are physical sales with Stockmaiden borrowed which must be closed or rolled (extended). Some good comments on here and my take is we will see improved numbers across the board. Shorters won’t close to the last minute otherwise they’ll massively increase the sp. The reason some have increased their short positions is for the very reason to create false uncertainty. Shops are busy busy and we will see good numbers and a sharp jump in the sp to anywhere from £20- £25.
