Selling the day before ex divi gives you money to retrade but if it does not drop by much then soars you are out of the game for a while.I have tried all of these over the years,some you win,some you don't.You are as well tossing a coin.If trading was as easy as some on here make out we would all be doing it.The market is a beast with a mind of it's own.

At today's currency and divi rates £12k worth of BP. shares is paying £1344 and £12k worth RDSB is paying £512

For years RDSB shares were approx 5 times the price of BP. Today RDSB are 4 times the price of BP. Is this a good or bad thing?

As long as you still own them next Wednesday at the close of the day, you will get the divi.

My loss is over 50% on what I own, so if I sold now I could maybe double my holding at £10 to reduce my average. It's a tough call.--------So,your ave price is about £25.If you sell now at £12 and buy back at £10 you have the same value as when they were £12 (minus stamp duty ) Remember they may well go up and put you in deeper poo.

If you have an average of £25 it's still a 2% divi, which is better than many! A man with no shoes is better than a man with no feet. Something is better than nothing but if you are holding at £25 you have lost 50% and require to get a 100% back to break even all the while getting a divi loss of 66%.

Lol,Iam not picking a fight here.They SELL . They take action.I also sell and take action but hindsight is never there when I need it.If you are sitting on an average of let's say £20,how do you get out of that?

Pokerchips,So it doesnt matter if the dividend amount has dropped. Who cares if the dividend total you receive stays the same.
That is fine if you are starting with zero shares but if you are already a holder with a high buy in price then it kinda makes it difficult.

4% is reasonable but that is only available to people who bought today.Peeps with @ £25 average (and there are plenty) are getting 2%

I deal with Halifax and the same has happened to mr 3 times this week.It says I had ran out of time when I definitely had not.I managed to get the trade through after about 4 tries but it cost me a penny or two on each trade.

The Brent price seems not to agree on the 3 sites that i watch.2 are showing a big jump today by about $3 to $23 and the other about $20. The sp def, is not following the $23 price.
