Listening again to that clip of people laughing at Lavrov. It is actually deeper than it first seems. Remember this is supposed to be a sympathetic, respectful audience of mostly diplomats. But listen at how deep, loud and widespread the laughter is. Clearly the audience is well informed and not under any kind of spell of Russian propaganda.

Keep your fingers crossed. Moments like this have the gravity to change the course of history. Lavrov has just received a first hand feedback from an audience that could not have been taken as hostile or laden with 'western' propaganda. At some point the penny will drop that the game's up and Russia has not and does not fool anybody other then itself and the opportunity for Russia to withdraw on it's own terms is rapidly diminishing. And what's more, moments like this can also embolden leaders to move more to the west and away from Russia and not be so intimidated by Russia. From that the coalition strengthens and eventually Putin shall have his war with NATO and Russia will occupied, broken up and erased PERMANENTLY. Imagine, no more needles Russian wars.

The conflicts involving US, UK and so on were based on UN mandates in response to acts of aggression or threats of terrorist action. Compensation has been paid out in hundreds of millions of dollars where collateral damage was involved. The Russian action has no UN sanction, is therefore open to any and all compensation claims since every structure and person in Ukraine is a target, civilian or otherwise. There is absolutely no legal or moral parallel.

If you believe at any level Russia is not going to be held accountable and made to pay for rebuilding the terrible damage it has inflicted, not just on Ukraine, you are whistling in the wind. A long queue of litigants will form seeking damages due to losses incurred by Russia's aggressive actions. Some of you really have no concept of what is coming down the road do you?

Sanctions may be lifted, but you forgot about the reparations Russia will be paying and how that may raised, oh and the sanctions applied for evading paying and for all the other wars and terrorism Russia engages with and the cyber attack sanctions and on it will go. Levy on precious metal mining and refining?

The other assumption is that a company, still Russian, will want to allow 'unfriendlies' as share holders to receive any dividends. Those nasty westerners supported Ukraine, why should they get a share of Russian gold money? The move of the company west to east indicates that backlash is underway already.

As I posted a week or two ago, Russian army bleeding to death from a thousand cuts - I had that from reliable sources and Russia is bleeding heavily over this zone of contact, very heavily. There is nothing remotely qualifying a 70% loss on the Ukraine side, that is a complete nonsense. The army would cease to function. The Ukrainian side has openly stated they are only staying as long as large losses can be inflicted on the Russian army. A thousand cuts. Russia has destroyed Bakhmut, there is nothing left to defend, or fight for. As long as it serves the purpose for destroying Russian forces, 'wave after wave' of them, Ukraine forces will take advantage. When it no longer serves a purpose, it will be abandoned at the discretion of the Ukrainian forces. But as with the strip of land on the coast, the expenditure of lives, casualties, money, resources and equipment for territory that can not be defended long term simply exposes the folly of the tactic.

And this is where the longer term effect will significantly impact POLY. This idea that once Russia puts a Jack boot on a piece of land, that land defaults to Russia forever and the landowner is obliged to sign it away forever, is a nonsense. That land does not become Russian and there will follow a never ending campaign to recover the land. And the supporters of Ukraine have made it blunt plain and clear that support will be never ending in supporting reclamation. So being linked to an open ended land conflict is not a clever place to position the company.

I questioned how long before the generals would call it a day to stop the slaughter and predicted movement on that by November last year, and there was movement but only retreating to internal lines not a full retreat. Have you talked to anybody such as a financial advisor about what to expect wrt getting dividend money out of KZ or liquidate and transfer proceeds out of KZ in the future? What issues or policy indicators were you advised to keep informed about in the region? I'd be interested to know.
