Any war zone is an open door to obtain and transfer weapons. There are more than enough enemies of the new Russia to facilitate arms supplies. The US is not needed in this one. There will be agents of all intelligence agencies trying to get eyes on the ground. However, it is so sensitive I doubt there are any CIA agents carrying TNT over the border. Financing of such operations also tends to come from surprising sources. Any US backing of Partisans would almost certainly by limited to financial and even then through third fourth even fifth removed parties. The US, UK and west don't need to be involved, and don't seem to want to be involved limiting to sending a pathetically small amount of arms over a long extended period. The Partisans have their own head of steam and access to large amounts of money through oligarchs and regional mafia and drug money.

Russia has opened up a big can of worms and it's persistence with Ukraine is going to cause years if not a generation of terror attacks trouble down the line. Places like Moscow are going to be no go areas in years to come. Russia should have withdrawn back in November when it was clear Russia isn't some grand superpower after all. Major tactical error.

The other major news is something called 'Partisans'. A loose collective is coming together including Syrian's, Ukrainian's, Belarusian's, Georgian's, and Russian's and Sino ethnics in the east and far north. A Partisan small movement acting aggressively inside Russia is growing exponentially now. The revelation of Russia's move back to full autocratic state, full military invasion tactics, constant attacks with no UN sanction and NATO failing to get involved on the battlefield in Ukraine and showing signs of being involved is resulting in a growing movement aimed at taking out Russia on a do-it-yourself-basis. This will only grow and grow. Especially when Russia starts bombing other neighbouring states to try and deter the Partisan movements. And some of these Partisan groups will have private 'security forces' at hand, especially inside Russia so are not a few lone wolves with little impact.

I've read a number of opinion pieces from well regarded analysts and the equivalent of an Arab Spring type uprising and the ensuing breakdown into civil war is definitely on the way.

Not sure how this sudden conversion to democracy counting populations as single votes squares with the parallel acceptance of the requirement for a 75% vote to pass the split vote at POLY. The first point is, China insists on maintaining Chinese names on Russian turf. Why? Second, the comment reply doesn't confirm whether these are new names extending the naming convention or a refresh of existing naming. Either way this does not chime with the apparent special relationship. If it was just a restatement, is it not something to be kept well under the radar or even removed at a time when China is supposed to be supporting Russia? That is the critical point and why I posted it. The geopolitical situation maybe much more complicated than first thought. China stabbing Russia in the back? Probability? I'd put a fiver on that although I doubt the odds would be better than evens.

This is one of the pitfalls of getting involved in investments in overseas places. Even territories that appear to be familiar and easy to access like USA of France can end up with local cultural differences that need to be so thoroughly understood you almost have to live there. Examples. USA - reservation land, France - superiority complex.
