I believe there had been a ceasefire for the last couple of years with very little activity. Part of the false flag exercise was get the separatists recommencing attacks, but Ukrainian forces didn't take the bait over several weeks whilst Russia forced many people to act as refugees being shipped to Russia.

As for the 'invasions' in many places on your list, there were qualified UN sanctions in most, combating terrorist groups after the event or humanitarian missions under significant media pressure 'to do something'. The Ukraine situation is playing out exactly the same. US/nato/west looking on - humanitarian situation getting worse and worse - pleas for help getting louder and louder. So, does the west not respond and leave the country to is own demise and obliteration like in Syria, or does the west respond militarily? The same people who fly the propaganda flags condemning any action taken by the west are always the same people condemning a lack of action.

I thought the recovery was slow pre war. Any faf associated with travel puts a lot of people off. The vast majority of this testing and passenger forms are purely for academic purposes and are killing an entire sector of the world's economy. We saw in the pandemic how the scientists and experts took hold of the agenda. I always said it was going to be difficult for them to let go this new found power. It might be a dream scenario for academics to have the power to test all passengers for higher confidence intervals in results, but this must not be at the cost of knackering the sector. All of this high confidence data will only end up in a paper in an obscure journal in an old dusty reference section of a university library at the end of the day.

That, fordm, is the rationale objective expectation. What is the confidence level any of at applies to a single minded Putin surrounded by terrified yes men and a self-reinforcing propaganda machine making some very bizarre claims as facts? I am sure the psychologist have delivered the damming and unequivocal assessments that Putin has no internal barriers to using any and all weapons as a matter course. Biden might hold back nato in a vain hope a miracle might happen, but the scenario of nukes being used and now chem weapons is fast approaching.

The big, big, big question is how secure the chain of command is to get a successful launch, and then a detonation. How well have those nuclear shells been maintained. There hasn't been live testing for years.

When I did my physics degree, we were taught some detail about what is required to obtain a successful uncontrolled chain reaction over a shot enough time to avoid inflation of the fissile material. It is not as simple as the tests in the 50s and 60s indicated. The battlefield might simply get contaminated with a lot of duds!

I don't think nato expected the Russians to be suc a car crash based on all the rhetoric and propaganda, although there previous campaigns routinely descend into medieval siege and bombardments, and as long there was nobody else fighting back.
And I don't think the Ukrainian resistance was expected since they are mainly kitted out with old soviet era kit. But they have the advantage of being the defenders dug in, motivation and being organised.

How will it end, Putin uses a WMD. Nato has no option. From what we have so far seen of the incompetent and stone age Russian army and airforce, a week for key objectives and another week to turn Russians to dust. When the nato dragon belatedly wakes up and breaths it's fire, it will be intense. Condition of Russian surrender must include surrender and destruction of every single nuke and chem weapon.

obbles, market reads consumers afraid war will spread rapidly and severe travel restrictions return leading to lost money or another pile of unusable vouchers. Even pre-war the return to travel was sluggish due testing and travelers being risk averse. I tried checking in for a flight and th faf with passenger location form and a truly bizarre 'identity check' where I head to blink and turn my head from side to side [it took multiple attempts especially with the eye blinking it]. With that kind of crap and people finding the covid certs are only valid with boosters it is still a hue hasel to travel. People travelled in the numbers pre pandemic because it was easier and easier - paperless tickets, online check in and so on. Now it's back to being a mess and people are being put off.
