Rubbish. The Russian backed separatists were failing to take territory and creating the land corridor to Crimea. The Minsk agreement was created by Russia to facilitate the extraction of eastern Ukraine but without advances from the separatists it was always gong to fail. After setting up the land corridor Russia would be pressing west taking Moldova first, linking to Belarus and then the Baltic expansion. Putin set it all out in is essays. Utter rubbish Ed. Still banging on with this deluded belief that the US runs european affairs? The US has virtually no leverage over what the Ukraine does. The only US involvement was to promise Ukraine security if it gave up the nuclear weapons inherited from the USSR, which it did. Now it is being attacked by Russia with no security from the US. The US is not very popular in Kyiv at the moment, let alone in a position to make demands. I have not 'exemplified' and genocides, nor has there been any prosecuted cases of such. Again, you delude yourself with what sort of places these countries were as they freely launched repeated terrorist attacks before UN sanctioned force was deployed.

And if Ukraine did surrender, Putin would simply push further and further west and the consequences wold be the war you, allegedly, want to avoid. Capitulation to an aggressive bully NEVER stops them.

fordm, given it is now Ukraine forces encircling and cutting off Russian forces, key target still being defended and ore offensive actions being taken against Russian forces especially in the north, I doubt a Ukrainian defeat is on the cards. We are coming up to the 10 day limit for Russian forces before they are out of all supplies. The losses are mounting, the sanctions are hitting home, there are voices of despair emerging from Moscow and Putin has regressed into full bunker mentality. Ukraine is far from being defeated.

It doesn't matter how much oil is there or the probability of being able to extract it. The speculation bubble does not care about such facts. Speculation will spin the facts out of all proportion. Speculation will cause a loss of rational thinking.

All that is required is the trigger which might come next week with the urgent government review on UK energy supply. It needs a clear indication pointing to self-reliance and indigenous sources and a clear acknowledgement that hydrocarbons are an essential part of the energy mix for years to come. If we then hear support to get micro producers as well as macro producers to production with a significantly streamlined planning and regulatory process, indeed expressed as a strategic urgent requirement, then speculators will pile into the likes of UKOG.

And as that sp goes shooting up, the irrational speculation bubble will take off . Which is when the level headed cash in before the true valuation becomes apparent and the crash happens.

That is what a lot of the 'rampers' are talking about. The facts will not matter for a short period of time and that is when the next UKOG Tulip bubble makes many of us very much better off.

If somebody in Lancashire was to set up a large plastic injection moulding plant and start churning out plastic widgets, no import tax, no very inflated shipping cost, no 20-90 day lead time, these days they could compete with China. My importing costs from China has increased hugely in the last few years. If western, especially UK, manufacturers changed the philosophy from trying to maximise p/unit and instead concentrated on volume generating overall higher revenue then a great deal o the components we import could be made in the UK. Too many western business look for instant massive get rich quick bonus generating sales. More lower markup sales is needed, then you increase orders and generate higher revenue than with high prices. We need a mindset change of attitude back to competition and market forces in the UK.

Russia demanding roubles in payment will require printing huge volumes of money for others to purchase to pay for the oil. Tat will lead to hyper zimbabwe style inflation. So Putin is forced to accept payment in other currency, rumbie or rupel. When Russia tries to use that currency it will find that the value is significantly depleted as the $ equivalent will be vanishingly small because the other currencies are weighted against the $ and other critical currencies like the yen and $. You cannot just cut your currency off from the global forex Mugabe style and expect everybody to accept your valuation. I Putin had any sense he would get payment in gold which can then be traded in and out of any currency until significant sanctions I hope he goes for the crypto currency because that is a worthless ponzi gimmick which will evaporate overnight one day soon. Russia is going to be selling its oil and gas at very significantly reduced prices as other sources are turned up. When the price starts to slide, capacity will be stepped up with contract prices well below today and Russia will have to mark down heavily to make sales which will make the rouble weaker and the hyper inflation more entrenched. I think he thinks he has come up with a clever clever strategy to orientate the world order around an asian axis. That requires a lot of countries ditching the $ reserve currency, for what? And this to happen overnight? Traders will bet against whatever the new reserve currency is with $s. There is a reason the world has been $ focused since the end of WWII through all manner of upsets.
