Latest claims for force sizes can find - Russia does not have anywhere near air superiority otherwise it would be walking all over the country by now. Air superiority means the ability to fly anywhere to support ground forces with no threat either from the air or land. Putin has clearly been very reluctant to risk his aircraft. Lose the aircraft and he has nothing to fight with anywhere and that includes old conflicts that come back to life. Ukraine has been very successful in downing a large number of Russian assets, fixed and rotary wing, and this is a key handicap for Russia. It also shows if nato does go to war with Russia, it'll take maybe less than a week for nato to have complete air superiority in the western part of Russia. This is what should be happening right now.

The Putin will win stories is a rehash of the early war strategy to try and persuade [nudge theory] Ukraine to surrender and offer no resistance. This was plugged a number of times from the BBC and BBC journalists on the ground tried to influence the narrative amongst the world media on the ground at the time but failed. The surrender narrative is believed to have originated from a dual approach by Germany and Russia that wanted the 'operation' to not drang on so as not to delay nord stream 2 any further. That completely fell apart and Germany had to back peddle very quickly as kindergartens were hit and civilians started being killed.

But the narrative is back, looks like is being pushed by a panicking Russian sid that is desperate for Ukraine to just surrender. It isn't going to happen. Instead Ukraine ha started sabotage ops inside Russia itself. It is 100% down to Russia to end it.

Whilst all the attention is on Ukraine and the related impact of sanctions, perhaps a bigger issue to have a much bigger impact on everyone is the bizzare zero covid policy in China. As an authoritarian country, embarking on such policies means being seen to succeed whatever the cost. And as the battle to control the spread of a highly contagious virus inevitably fails, China tries to clamp down harder and harder. This is having a growing impact on supply chains and logistics. If factoring in influences on sp revcory, this big story in China needs attention. China may not be in a position to help Russia much isolating Putn further. China may require Ukraine food production to get back to normal very quickly. Sanctions may have to be relaxed thanks to China closing down. If Russia digs in and does not wind down the conflict, economies and financial systems maybe hit the double whammy of sanctions and China.

Keep an eye on the deterioration in China.
