In Afghan a stable peace was achieved in most regions with the Taliban cornered in a couple of enclaves, so there was no more need for the western alliance to be there. So withdrawal was set up and the handover to the Afghan army began.

BUT! It turned out the Afghan army claimed, didn't quite exist. As western forces continued to withdraw, the Taliban noticed there was no real replacement of local forces. So the Taliban waited for the extent of the withdrawal was irreversible. In the final few weeks the Taliban rose up expecting to be fighting for many months before breaking out of their enclaves. Instead the found what little Afghan army there was simply run way.

The end result was the Taliban suddenly finding themselves in Kabul well before the Americans and remaining coalition had left. It was a very odd situation and on reflection the Taliban acknowledge they should have camped outside Kabul for a while so the last coalition forces could exit without the mess we witnessed.

To say the Taliban forced out the coalition is plain wrong. There was no fighting in Kabul in the last weeks, only panicked locals who suddenly didn't have the time they thought thy had for an organised withdrawal.

Russia were actually beaten into a withdrawal from Afghanistan. The western coalition was handing over control to what turned out to be a gutless government and fake Afghan army.

Russia has lost the war in Ukraine and is now becoming desperate to save face in some way and is simply escalating this to a full war which it has no way to win and will not be able to call on the BRICS for support.

The price dropped to 90p when the war started. It crashed. Exactly how much of that crash is the market assuming abandonment of Russian assets nobody knows, but the point is the scenario is most likely already priced in partly if not fully. Chill out!

If Russia is now trying to engineer the war into a wider theatre, the abandonment scenario has to considered, I expect it has already been priced in to some significant extent with the initial drop to 90p

So, Ukraine continues to retake territory Russia declares as it's own and therefore an attack on Russia directly. The pretext for declaring all out war on Ukraine is created. The pretext for declaring all out war on NATO is established on the basis that NATO is training and supplying Ukraine.

Two scenarios from this.

1. The generals call it a day knowing the slaughter of Russian forces by Ukraine is bad enough, but to have NATO being directly involved will be too much and rapid withdrawal to Feb boarders at least might stop a full invasion of Russia.

2. The west seize the opportunity and invade Russia directly without clearing Russia from Ukraine first and place Russia under occupation thereby removing the persistent problem for good.

I would suggest the two who have left maybe dumping. Also somebody will have had a position relative to the voting intentions/policy influence of these two and this may also be a position change.

But overall I still expect a positive bounce from this. If their removal was to ensure good corporate governance, then the market confidence in the company should secure positions which may be extended. I also suspect when the reasons for a double departure with immediate effect are better understood from friends of friends the market will judge POLY favourably.

And if this is the preliminary move to abandon the certification proposal, then I expect a very positive market signal.
