NATO is far more likely to intervene the more the civilian infrastructure is attacked. There will be a limit at which point a coalition will be compelled to act. Any demands of Russia will be dismissed as the conflict will be of humanitarian in nature. As disgusting as the Putin war has been so far, the base definition was about land, allegiance and political position. Turning exclusively on civilian infrastructure is now changing the dynamics significantly and he will inevitably get his war with NATO, or rather a worldwide task force under UN control but largely composed of NATO countries.

You underestimate how many NOW want regime change in Russia to try and back track to pre war relations with the rest of the world. There are certainly Putin supporters around, but even early on those rallies needed people to be forced and duped into attending and waving flags. And as for all those rusty old nukes in air, most launch and delivery systems are knackered rusted and decayed. Few will get off the ground let alone each a designated target, fewer still will detonate and maybe none will ever reach their full yield. A lot of propaganda claims around those nukes, but compared to what we now know of how decrepit the whole Russian military machine is, well lets just say people no longer mock what I say about the useless rusty old nukes being only a minor random threat. Oh and the ones that do get airborne will also be vulnerable to interception as Ukraine has demonstrated with even with just sniper fire.

Educate yourself. This is why NATO has no control over Ukraine and can not magically stand down Ukraine forces. There is no command structure. This is the hole Russia is digging for itself. The propaganda is based on a totally false premise and there is no actual entity to 'negotiate' with. Russia can not 'negotiate' with the west, or the UN on the same basis. This is a Ukraine Russian war, but keep pushing and eventually the west and NATO will make it their war. Russia will be crushed and put under occupation and have all it's nuclear weapons decommissioned. Just keep pushing.

NATO is not engaged in Ukraine. It has never engaged nor been associated with any hostilities in Ukraine. There are no NATO forces that could be withdrawn.

I'm interested to know how the west is supposed to stop the war. There are no forces to withdraw, no air cover to withdraw, no iron dome to withdraw, no special forces to withdraw. Ukraine fought the recent invasion as it has been fighting Russia's proxy forces since 2014. They would be fighting the Russian invasion irrespective of what anybody in the west says as they have done for 8 years. The UN hasn't found against Ukraine on any matter since the invasion of Crimea [that I am aware of] and has been on Ukraine's side throughout. If the call for help to defend itself was ignored, Ukraine would continue to fight anyway.

Russia wants to believe that Ukraine is under some sort of external control. It is an attempt to rationalise both the rejection of Russia and the humiliation of its army. It is having to invent an ever bigger picture to try to come to terms with the scale of the defeat as it occurs.

NATO and the west have not, as yet, got involved. A few rocket launchers and vehicles and some financial assistance as the economy is depressed due to war. There isn't much in all reality that could be withdrawn so there isn't much, if any, leverage over Zelensky in the first place. This is something I think the various factions in the Kremlin are becoming aware of. It doesn't matter what threats or actions are taken against the west, there isn't much the west could actually do to stop Ukraine fighting the Russians anyway.

Putin thought post-covid that the west was weak and would respond in the same way as the original invasion in Crimea. He got it wrong and this time the west has responded to requests, albeit to a limited extent, to Ukraine's request for help. Some arms, some hardware and some training along with limited financial assistance has been granted so far.

There is now a desperation trying to paint this is as somebody else's war, trying to drag NATO and the west into it. Be very careful what you wish for because if NATO countries decide that this is indeed now their war, Russia will be eliminated from future history and placed under occupation for a generation. Just keep pushing it and see what happens.
