the government reports less than 300 cases (confirmed and probable) in the uk up to july 2024. it’s a notifiable disease so the numbers are reasonably reliable.
the risk to the uk population remains low.
i don’t think there’s much of a risk, frankly, because transmission is, up to now between *** and bisexual men. the case today is clade l as opposed to all previous cases being clade ll. the infected person is in the royal free specialist unit and contact tracing is under way. we have a vaccine and eligible persons have already been contacted and vaccinated, apparently. if a community outbreak occurs, the same sort of procedures as for covid will be put in place. as i understand it, it’s a one off vaccine not a recurrent one.
open to correction of my assumptions/conclusions, of course.
