the government reports less than 300 cases (confirmed and probable) in the uk up to july 2024. it’s a notifiable disease so the numbers are reasonably reliable.

the risk to the uk population remains low.

i don’t think there’s much of a risk, frankly, because transmission is, up to now between *** and bisexual men. the case today is clade l as opposed to all previous cases being clade ll. the infected person is in the royal free specialist unit and contact tracing is under way. we have a vaccine and eligible persons have already been contacted and vaccinated, apparently. if a community outbreak occurs, the same sort of procedures as for covid will be put in place. as i understand it, it’s a one off vaccine not a recurrent one.

open to correction of my assumptions/conclusions, of course.

Price manipulation today - there no way the piddling number of trades could depress the price this much. How do they do it?

You must’ve come back too early, CWWX, but no matter! Price seems to have held up well. Not so much a plunge as a pretty large spike around 13:30 when the SP went above £15:50. A good day, I think, when all is said and done.

Just seen a short article saying profits at NatWest up by 25%.

I am hopeful this will continue to hover around £14.50 until full year results then move on up through 2025 and 2026.

PS anyone know why NatWest has jumped today?

Well, it did plunge a bit at 14:30 but immediately seemed to bounce back. I’m quite happy, as many others seem to be, with the price at the moment. Never known to say no to a further increase, of course.

I hope the shorters are spitting feathers - but they’ll have hedged themselves, no doubt.

Thanks Bot. I think we forget that bit about Carnival is US driven not UK. It’s always why 14:30 is so critical each day.

This is amazing/surprising in equal measure. It is trading at a 12-month high and, as Bot says, it is now within a whisker of the target for the end of next year. Anyone given any thoughts about why this surge?
