I don`t know SOM`s cash position Pete but a trip to lakes is not cheap. Tiny parking spaces and rip off cafes. Much better in the beautiful Yorkshire dales IMO. Hawes, Bainbridge, Askrig and more, beautiful in spring.
C mon BT make us smile.
Hi SOM, "their divi reinvestment nonsense." Well the thing there is its an opinion. No need to call it nonsense. Reinvestment of divi will actually remove shares from circulation and thus increase SP, in theory. I am underwater with BT about -85p. Will not sell at a loss and keep taking divi. I do feel for your pain with BT but please try not to let it make you bitter. Hope your trip to lakes went well ATB.
SOM, you do appear to be trying to be less confrontational. Keep it up. Peeps will re-engage with you if you give reasoning to your thoughts. For security reasons I don`t think a bid will develop for BT. Could be wrong but I think UK gov will require BT remains 51% UK owned. Why do you think a bid will come? oh and GL for new year.
Yeah Pete re LGEN. Slowly transferring into share isa because of good divi. In the red atm with BT but see future good once investment, rebuilding slows. Pension liabilities will reduce as time goes on. Divi already good will improve as costs reduce. Patience needed with BT. Don`t wish to upset the old curmudgeon but can not see a bid ever coming for BT. Be surprised if Gov allowed it due to security. ATB and prosperous new year to all.
"Does anyone seriously believe the Government would fine BT in view of the fact Government policy created this situation?"
Yes Fleccy I do. Basically Government can change rules, cheat and Lie. Especially when they are cash strapped.
PS, did you have a dabble with LGEN?
SOM, good morning. I have no axe to grind with you. Why on Earth would I filter you? I am similar to you in political views of things, medium right wing. But I can correspond with left wingers / union bods / Labour voters without getting wound up.
Unions are not all bad. I think the real enemy is OFCOM. They see BT as headline grabbing and an easy target. Its about time BT management grew some and attacked OFCOM for a start with impeding trade, unfair treatment etc.. Then reduce tax paid to make Gov sit up. Money is the only thing the great deep thinking ones understand. Reduce it and they will ask why and all fingers point to OFCOM.
I don't know which I dislike most, OFCOM or the BBC. Anyhow have a great Xmas and new year all.
PS. If you want to know what's on the BBC this Xmas look up the 1985 Radio Times 8-))
Cheers savageK and Fleccy. That's what I find confusing Is total debt £19 billion with pension deficit ?
SOM, Not sure why you wish to pick arguments swap insults on here as what ever we say here will never change a thing. Just saying and no offence meant.
Evening Fleccy I have just read that to. However I am not going to elaborate as there is no reasoning with some people.
What is going on with BT. Last week I felt it was starting to get some upward movement only to backtrack. What have BT done to get OFCOMS wrath or is it BT are gust an easy target and justifies OFCOMS existence.
Yeah Pokerchips. We are now the heaviest populated country per square mile in Europe. The tax burden past sustainable and the highest its ever been. The gov is finding ever more ways to enlighten us of our cash hence dividends coming under scrutiny / lower tax free element. 3/4 of a million people / year have to be paid for one way or another. Paying to much tax means why work hard. Why risk money in shares if gov are going to steal any profits. I think this is why UK shares have stagnated over the last decade whilst other exchanges have surged ahead.
I would like to get out of BT. For years now OFPRAT5 have found vindictive ways to crush BT. The divi is a cushion to soften the blow of a poor SP. What I do not like is the divi taxed to pay for Govs weakness / mistakes / blundering. Boy does this country need a clean sweep, a fresh and strong government that puts its own people first. I live in hope.
Aus, "Is everything I’ve said basket case?" More or less mate. The fact is Britain can not feed the world. Let it go Aus, its starting to get under your skin.
Anyhow just off to airport to welcome your mate Nigel back from Australia. ;-)))) Chill is the word.
I don`t get OFCOM, they jump on BT for the slightest alleged issue yet let the BBC trap and lie to Princess Di and basically spew forth any bilge they like. Over 1 million complaints about the BBC and OFCOM sit there with their thumb where the sun don`t shine. MP that says disband OFCOM gets my vote. Sick of them.
