Fleccy there is another point, the pension is not payable all at once. It will probably spread out over next 30 years. It is disgracefull management let the pension deficit run out of control but it is showing signs of correction. BT is a massive cash generator. It's why ofcom/ government want their share. I also think DT are messing behind the scenes. Short and distort comes to mind.

Well that is the issue, a lot of the workforce will BE shareholders. Their pensions or wage topped up with dividends. They will face a double whammy of reduced dividends + share price errosion. I have been subjected to this with my own company so speak from experience. I have also had to work longer so faced a triple whammy. Cutting divi does not send right message, imho of course.

Well you have completely lost me there. I have always viewed companies reducing divi reduces confidence. It is seen as the company doing badly and more stormy waters ahead. How does a reduction in divi make SP rise? It certainly did not rise with Barclays. 50% cut in divi and a long term SP doldrums. ( Of course no corresponding cut in bonus ) I view wanting a cut in divi like turkeys voting for Xmas. No disrespect meant.

The divi atm is more than 50% over subscribed so is maintainable. The pension black hole also seems to be reducing so BT is heading in right direction. My only worry is the antics of ofcom. They view BT as their own cash cow and a vehicle to make headlines with.

I am now watching SP closely. And will top up shortly. Even if your divi cut is implemented say to 10p the price is still good, about a 5% yield.

My point being although JB is on a much smaller scale than the institutions who practice shorting, he shorts this stock then proceeds to deramp it. The large institutions face fines for this antic. He Then confronts any poster who dares to have a positive view. Some of these posters, like yourself, are well worth reading but start to drift away as they don`t need the grief.
These days I like to just read the board to gain insight and ideas. I enjoyed a nice profit last year on SXX because of a small comment made by another poster. If these people disappear its a loss to us all. Hence trying to have a quiet word with the all knowing one.

The contents from my post were taken from a trading site in the USA, for the life in me I can`t locate atm but they did legislate because of " short and distort" tactic`s.

What ever we scribe on these BB`s will not make any difference to the scheme of things. I don`t know if JB realizes this. Its the loss of mature posters that tasks me.

When a share is down and the company struggling the holders suffer. That is why they talk on here, giving each other a bit of encouragement in hard times. Then someone like you come along and insult/ badger them for historic decisions they made. The result- lots of good, knowledgeable posters stop posting and we all lose out.
So a polite request is if you can`t post without the vitriol don`t post. Enjoy your alleged shorting profits and only post if its worth reading. Its easy to filter you but that does not bring back the more mature posters.

When a board is a good one there is always some crackpot turns up and spoils it. I don`t know why LSE attracts them. At the moment jack, that is you. GL all else.

There is no need to be so smug. Shorting is IMO the most low despicable action allowed in UK share dealing. To willfully wish the downfall of a company and thus employees and share holders lose, is again in my opinion, extremely selfish. You gain on the back of other peoples loss. Not a reason to be smug.
So I ask you one question- What good has shorting ever done for company and country? Its a simple question so take your time.

Hi Aus point taken. Its just that Sky, voda, virgin etc never seem to attract ofcom`s wrath. And they are certainly not whiter than white. ATB.

The point I was making is Ofcom seem to totally focused on BT and feel obliged to hound them come what may. Would I invest in this countries phone industry knowing full well that some quango is going to make me share my efforts? No I would not. Ofcom make nothing, sell nothing, add no value to anything and basically exist on the back of BT. Perhaps I am a little wrong there, ofcom do make something....trouble. The only thing in your post I agree with is BT are an EX monopoly. EX Aus EX. Thirty years ago EX.

You are right Pacemaker1000. Ofcom are slowly degrading BT to justify their existence. My own company is suffering because of audit regulations, elf n safety, vat, company tax, extra NI payments per employee and so on. Its why they are investing quietly in other parts of the world, latest Germany. There are to many quango`s in the UK and its suffocating innovation. When we are all jobless who is going to pay for rotten ofcom? Who is going to pay for the cotton wool to wrap us all in? This country really does need a seismic shift to help us become competitive again. A large cut in VAT would help.
Perhaps BT should threaten to move its HQ abroad, reducing its tax burden to the UK. Its the only thing those undemocratic wind bags in Westminster would get, hopefully resulting in ofcom having its wings clipped for a change. GL.

When the present CEO took charge he "kitchen sinked" barclays to " Improve its fiscal position". This meant reducing the divi by 50% to 3p whilst leaving bonuses untouched. This ruined share price and has left barcs a joke, not worth investing in. Hence share price doldrums. Out of banks now as I see their BoD`s as dishonest and self serving.

Hi Boomer and hooky. These rats won`t let go. They pull Gladstone solicitors like a six shooter. At the IAS at the moment but don`t hold much hope. The system is geared against the driver. They threaten a CCJ judgment against me and frankly I give a flying F*&^ as at my age I don`t need credit.Perhaps I shall however fill their P&D machine with spray paint should I be extorted of £100. I wounder what the cost of replacement will be, more than £100 I would wager.
