Gus0 - share consolidation and share buyback are two completely different things. Consolidation is usually done for negative reasons - needing to increase the nominal SP in order to issue more shares which is not good for existing shareholders. Very often the SP drifts below the consolidation price. Buyback is usually done for positive reasons - increasing the actual SP in order to reward shareholders. In fact, I can't think of a negative reason apart from the argument that the money would be better employed growing the company and I note hunniford's comments. Lastly, please define "market cap doughnut" which I've not encountered before.
Mayo51: "Interesting but what will they use to buy them back" hits the nail on the head! Obviously, ORR is not awash with cash at the moment but as soon as it is then a buyback would benefit shareholders.
hunniford: OK, no more criticism of the BOD from me apart from wondering where ORR would be now had it had more dynamic management. Incidentally, I have aired my opinions directly to the company and never received a reply - not even "Like us or lump us!" ORR is now my largest investment - almost half my PF - and I am keen to become a millionaire (for which I need an SP of 10p). GLA!
