Down 14% at present, on 5.5 million shares is not much of a vote of confidence, in my book, still if you like bottom fishing you are 14% closer to the bottom than on Friday.
To me, a company that shares a Chair with Woodford, who in turn owned 25% with his old colleague holding almost 30% more, thus giving the "dynamic duo" over 50% between them, has more than a few questions to answer, don't you agree ?

You are quite correct but in Marstons case they negotiated fixed term loans on something similar to a derivative contract which is why they have this mark to market loss on their loans in the latest accounts, interest rates have dropped so a fixed rate higher up is costing them.
I had this from RF in an email exchange & of course it is easy to see why fixed rates were attractive to them as their borrowings were so large that a 1 or 2 percanntage rise could have had very serious consequences.
We are on the right road now though, cutting borrowing by selling underperforming assets whilst concentrating on their core business, brewing, has to be a sound strategy.
It is a pity that their food offer is so crummy, that could have hiked their revenue significantly, but you only eat in a Marstons if you really have to.....

Surely on those figures you quote the pe is about 50 times not 40 times ?
I never usually entertain stocks on that type of multiple but with their major competitor bleeding customers incessantly post Woodford isn't AJB the most, certainly one of the most, obvious places to transfer in to ?
Given their profitability increases much faster than the rate of AUM due to the fixed costs of the platform couldn't we be seeing a great opportunity, hence the stratospheric pe ?

This suspension happens on property funds quite regularly, it is well advertised in their publicity material.
So the drop in share price should be recovered when sanity returns, but realistically sanity is investing in property, or any potentially illiquid asset, through a trust, not a fund. Woodford inadvertently proved that point, but perhaps M&G property investors were not looking ?

If you are a hedge fund or an institution you simply borrow the shares. So late delivery is irrelevant.

More likely the institutions who bought at 25p this week are taking a 10% profit?

Isn't it instructive when the CFO brushes off a legitimate enquiry as to why ALL shareholders are not treated equally, yet he is apparently the same man who spent plenty of time giving Canon the "apparent inside track" as to the co's prospects so Canon then parrots it "apparently verbatim".
I think this tells you most of what one needs to know about the management strategy doesn't it ?

EIS &SEIS which Mercia do also offer tax rebates, actually larger than VCT due to the earlier stage of those co's thus more risk

Indeed, though the Northern VCT's have been less than stellar of late.
The ebitda numbers quoted all sound highly impressive but the book raise at 25p probaly is a more eloquent reflection as to where we are ?
Given most people who hold VCT's sell them after the 5 year lock up period then reinvest into another vct to keep taking the 30% tax rebate the Northern AUM are not quite as stable as they may appear at first glance.

I think that perhaps the accelerated book raise to take over 3 vct's was not exactly the "simmeringing" you had in mind ?
Also, though I am perhaps a bit of a cynic, a conversation with the CFO giving all the bull points did raise the question in my mind, "why"?

Caveat Emptor, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is too good to be true.
Any company that had the dynamic duo of Woodford & Barnett holding just over 50% between them deserves to be treated with some caution.....

I agree, the loss on their mark to market of their fixed rate loan agreements was a bit tough though, if that says anything it is that the new Chairman was wise in going for a reduction on their borrowings ?

I can think of one reason why it might not be so good, that is Nick Train has a whopping holding & given he has Man Utd, WWE in US & Pearsons he does seem to be losing his mojo a little doesn't he ?

We appear to now be at about an all time low pricewise, do you still have full confidence in the BOD and the effect that US theme parks having record numbers will have on the share price ?
If there really is a buyer it looks like his/her preferred form of travel is by submarine ?

Still seem to be more sellers than buyers though

I have to say that looking at the 1 year chart which is pretty glum, does not relate to the progress apparently being made by this interesting company.
Could this be a result of Woodford holding & then dumping a bunch of AIM companies which has knocked the smaller company market for six ?
