Announced today a new cruise ship for Queenie (or King Charles) costing a measly £200m.

One of the problems is that we have a man in charge who has no concept of money...other than he isn't paid enough! How much wasted on that garden bridge concept?
He is like a teenager with a new credit card....spending is easy but when that bill arrives it will be a bit of a shock......for the adults who will have to pay it. All very well IF government debt interest rates remain low, which could change IF the markets lose trust in our ability to control our national debt.

Still on BoJo's shopping list: Social care, build more affordable homes, insulate existing housing stock & convert to low carbon heating, lots more Royal navy ships for BoJo to play with, levelling down/up, lots more hospitals & NHS staff, wasn't there a tunnel to Northern Ireland(?), Electric vehicle infrastructure, HS2/HS3, free(?) fibre optic broadband, training for old gits to continue working until they are 80, etc etc etc.

And this doesn't even factor in the economic consequences if the post pandemic recovery isn't as strong as forecast....unemplyment rising.

Rosewall, how do you see the 'economic disaster' playing out? Will it be limited to the UK or will it be a global phenomenon?
Personally I think there will be significant change in the next 10 years, some we can control some we cannot. What the world will be like in 10 years time I can only guess at.....perhaps it is best to limit the discussion to certain trends or themes. What happens to Chinese Western relations could be big....we are sending out one of our aircraft carriers to 'sort them out' (waving a big rather pointless stick IMO!!).

I thought the banking regulator had requested banks to cease dividends to shore up bank finances because of the pandemic but they have now allowed restarting dividends, albeit within limits. Compared to 2008 banks banks now have much larger capital reserves to combat economic shocks. The compensation from PPI has also ended.
That doesn't mean the next few years will be plain sailing....but compared to 2008 banks are in a much better position.
Interest rates could also be rising - both a good & a bad thing - but generally 'good' for banks I believe.

I must admit that I have been impressed by LLOY slow but steady recovery in the SP from the lows of the pandemic. When BARC started shooting up I was a little worried that LLOY wasn't going to recover, but it has been a tortoise & hare race. BARC has peaked and seems to be struggling but LLOY keeps on heading higher. Obviously LLOY will reach its full potential....that I suppose is what is being guessed at...60p, 70p, 80p, a pound!!
Pure guesstimates IMO. We have just coming out of a severe economic & social shock - although we may still be in the jaws of the lion!! - and the road ahead is uncertain. Thankfully bank finances are historically robust but the coming years & decades are going to have significant amounts of change....and the UK has problems & opportunities quite unique. So the linear rise in the SP from 50p to 80p (and beyond) is not guaranteed IMO.
Sometimes as investors we have to ignore the background noise telling us what we want to hear and instead ask ourselves what is likely to happen.
I remember at the start of the pandemic some voices (on most share forums especially stocks like CCL) were saying that the virus wasn't going to impact profits & the SP's weren't going to fall, was that realistic?....at the time I thought it was wishful thinking.

I wasn't even alive in 2013....no seriously, we have to deal with the here & now. Comparing things to 2013 may not be that sensible (IMO).

Pipe dream, wet dream, day dream. The share price is the share price. Wishful thinking isn't going to move it up or down by even a gnat's whisker.

BTW I reckon it will reach £1 on Monday....or even before then!!

Perhaps RDSB should be explaining the benefits of gas power plants to the Chinese as a possible transition strategy on their path to a cleaner greener future!

To some extent it is about the economics of 'going green'. If the Chinese leadership decide that 'going green' is the beneficial to their economy they will 'probably' move quickly & decisively....albeit these things take time (even for the Chinese).

Smog from coal power stations is causing problems for health and may factor into the decision to switch.....although in the Chinese thinking that may not be that important.

I can quite understand why the Chinese feel they almost have right to use a lot of fossil fuels - the West has built up their economies on carbon - but the economics of green energy are changing and the pressure from the West especially may be difficult to ignore.

I suspect that China is on the verge of 'going green'. As they have proven when China decides to do something then it is done....no messy votes required!
There is a lot of truth that the West has become addicted to cheap Chinese products & sub-components. Everything is made to a large extent in China....and it generates huge profits for Western companies. It will not change.
Global warming is seen as 'good for business' because they can ship all the Chinese products via the Northwest passage more cheaply...go figure!!

Oil prices seem quite high to me...and demand is increasing (and forecast to continue rising). I have never seen the roads so busy.....at least for a year!!

Of course it could. With a HQ in the UK it could also form a joint venture with Elon Musk to build an oil pipeline to the moon.

I thought TRMR had an exclusive agreement with LG, was that actually through a third party (namely Alphonso)?
And LG may or may not have decided to change the dynamics by buying Alphonso and taking what they offer in-house. Does that mean that the link between LG & TRMR is broken?

Isn't that the point of the ESC, it is an escape from reality?!It possibly needs a rebranding thought, it's never a 'contest'. More akin to the 'Rocky Horror Show'. Itisn't even European only now.

Funnily enough I agree that the money - £300bn plus - spent on the pandemic has been wasted. But that is the price we had to pay for our lack of preparedness....it was the 'wrong' sort of virus apparently!
Countries like Singapore that have gone through 'similar' virus outbreaks had robust, tested and efficient systems in place. We had sweet FA. And it was our lack of planning that meant we have had to throw the only resource we have at it...money!!
Idiots who spout about letting the virus rip and letting "a 'few OAP's die a few years early", are as I said idiots. It was not about saving OAP's, it was about protecting the NHS from getting overloaded. Luckily the NHS did not reach capacity,it came very very close....and that was with a lockdown!!. Idiots will never know what it would have been like to have a NHS in total crisis...it would not effect just the elderly, it would effect every family, young people, rich & poor. But they are idiots and I suppose they don't know any better.
So yes, I agree that we have wasted shedloads of money through inaction, being ill-prepared & general wasteful policies (eat out for less & test/track trace schemes etc etc). But the lockdowns were a necessary evil required by a lack of long term planning for an 'inevitable' pandemic....perhaps it was austerity, perhaps it was the distraction of Brexit & Trumpism, but we messed up. And now we have a huge bill to pay....a bill that's still increasing, no matter what the idiots say!

From the latest report:
"....transport decline No 2 allowing access to 640,000 tons of reserves at levels +161, +164 and +178; and .....transport decline No 1 allowing access to 110,000 tons at levels +150 and +163."

That is 750,000 tonnes of ore at level +150 to +200 masl. This should be approximately a years production at a head grade of 3.36g/t.
With the new targetted mining allowed by the new equipment ore dilution 'should' be a thing of the past.
Assuming they 'only' process 500,000 tonnes of this ore then according to my calculation that is:
500,000 x 3.36 x 0.8 = 1,344,000g = 43,000 Oz

That is the sort of production figures we should be getting....but will it happen?!

Utter rubbish on so many levels. It isn't even worth responding to such drivel.

Unfortunately, IF the market believed what ALtyn was telling it then the SP would be above £3...probably a lot higher.
There are too many inconsistencies in the stories being told by Altyn. They need to start delivering on their plans. Increasing grade would be a good start.
We can argue about how many plants they are going to build when/if they ever get one working efficiently and to capacity.

DofM, it is all a bit confusing IMO. Reading the report I can see it two ways. That Sekisovkoye & Teren-sai are operated as two totally separate mines, where the target of 2Mtpa is solely for Sekisovkoye and Teren-sai will have its own target. The other way of looking at it is that the 2Mtpa target is for the combined output of both mines.

If the plan is to have 3 processing plants - 2 at Sekisovkoye and 1 at Teren-sai - then I would have expected the long term target to evetually be 3Mtpa...but the report contains no such target.

Barclays has had a tough decade or more (mostly of its own making), lurching from mis-selling scandals to regulatory lawsuits, and along the way a major re-shaping of the business (that still has to bear fruit IMO) and then a pandemic to top it off. All along investors seem to have been treated as second class citizens, almost an afterthought. I guess the saying may come true, "Things can only get better".....but I have been saying that for the last 10+ years!!

DofM, your quote from the 2019 CPR agrees entirely with my understanding . One additional processing plant is to be built (not two) and capacity is to rise from 1Mtpa - once the current plant is upgraded - to 2Mtpa once the new plant becomes fully operational.
No mention of a 3rd plant or a target of 3Mtpa!

You seem to have factored in two 1Mtpa plants at Sekisovkoye and the mention of a plant at Teren-sai seems to have made you think - possibly erronesously - that a 3rd is being planned. More likely (IMO) is that there will be one 1Mtpa plant at Sekisovkoye (the current plant upgraded) and one additional 1Mtpa plant at Teren-sai.

I must admit that when I saw the mention of a plant at Teren-sai - requiring significant expenditure - I was confused too.
