RE: Current coronavirus vaccines unlikely to protect against new variants22 May 2021 20:26
Establishing the NVAP support is critical to get countries with few or no genomic sequence facilities, (or trained epidemiologists), to get assistance with building facilities capable of contributing to a world genomic sequencing picture.
It looks as though Novacyt's instruments and open platform assays, combined with the fast development of new assays with which to identify recently identified mutations, are ideally placed to export to those countries that apply for assistance.
ie from the NVAP announcement (found at the foot of this post), applications via:
1 Countries can access support via a dedicated email address: nvap@phe.gov.uk
2 Hubs are being selected through joint work between the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and PHE, aligned with WHO assessment of global sequencing capacity.
Rapid support by a deployed team of experts may also be provided if needed.
The more applicants, the more the NCYT equipment and assays will become the default standard way of performing Genomic Sequencing, as competitor assays and equipment take much longer than the Primerdesign 2 to 3 hrs for assays to provide a test result, and the assistance identified here is available from no other source worldwide.
NVAP is committed to making data available globally through GIS-AID (database). This will allow it to inform UK risk assessment and pandemic control strategies globally.

I don't see how the DHSC relationship can be harmed significantly over the second contract, if we are a central part of Public Health England and UK Health Security Agency plans for NVAP?
