"Meanwhile , Daewoong Pharmaceuticals has established a joint venture with Abacta, a British protein therapy platform development company, and is developing next-generation therapeutics using the 'Apicell Platform' that combines the technologies of both companies.

The Apicell platform is a next-generation cell and gene therapy platform that injects genes into Daewoong Pharmaceutical's DW-MSC, which can be cultivated for organ passage, to express 'Affimer', a similar antibody protein of Avacta. Therapeutics made with the Apicell platform have the advantages of both stem cell therapy and antibody therapy, and are evaluated as having high potential.

Apicell Therapeutics is accelerating the development of a lead pipeline 'AFX001' that incorporates this technology. Earlier this year, the company completed a preliminary clinical trial plan (IND) meeting with the U.S. FDA to enter clinical trials for 'AFX001', and it is expected to enter phase 1 clinical trials as early as next year.

'AFX001' is an autoimmune disease treatment that targets CD40L, which is involved in the mutual activation of T and B cells. It is characterized by the combination of the autoimmune modulatory function of stem cell therapy and the mechanism by which Apimer inhibits the signaling of CD40L to maximize the therapeutic effect.

The "RESIST ACINETO" test offers a groundbreaking solution for rapid detection of antibiotic resistance. Developed by DZIF scientists in collaboration with the Belgian company CORIS BIOCONCEPT, this commercialised test identifies four resistance factors in hashtag#Acinetobacter baumannii, a superbug resistant to carbapenems—key reserve antibiotics used in critical infections.

The test detects the carbapenemases OXA-23, OXA-40, OXA-58, and the metallo-beta-lactamase NDM, covering over 95% of carbapenem resistance determinants in A. baumannii. It delivers results within 15 minutes, enabling timely and appropriate antibiotic therapy.

Early and precise detection is crucial for guiding effective treatment and preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance. "RESIST ACINETO" represents a vital step forward in the fight against resistant pathogens.
