eggshead,
Not sure if serious but it means Tony has a greed to sell some of his lovely oil at a fixed price averaging $58.
He has also got the option if he chooses to sell some at this price or at the current price in the market if its higher so a percentage of the 50% hedged is a floor price and the option won't be taken up.
I think hes planning on using the profits to pay for some landscaping at his mansion including a shrubbery and a nice new sculpted hedge.. hence the term hedging.
Brent net long positions at 728K they have only been higher than this twice in 10 years and that was in Jan 18.
Andy.p made a big point of saying they were falling when they droped to 668k on the 6th April. I said they are still at 12 year highs. Last 5 years averaged 400k net long. The lowest I can see was -56k.
Its all about perspective.
shaf5,
On shorttracker net short positions over .5% Euroclear shows the total stock out on loan including under .5% reporting threshold. I understand there is a bit more to it than that but it is still a guide and I think it reflects the position quite closely. Debenhams for example was showing 18.73% at the end of March and on shorttracker it was showing 14.6 %
seer,
Yes it does seem that way doesn't it my guess would be algos keeping it down then buying into the close as the selling pressure mounts. Shorts here were still 10.87% at end of March on Euroclear. Thats a lot of shares to buy back if they decide to close.
The later the better with the Cat RNS as we want the SP as high as possible before the boost from the RNS
hydraides,
Please give it a rest will you, your moaning already got boring weeks ago. If you want quick gains have you thought about trading something more risky like San Leon Energy (today up 38% ) or South African Property Opportunities ( today up 118% )
Trump and the US obviously don't want the oil price getting too much over $75 as it will start to hurt at the pumps, cause inflation and blunt economic growth.
I think Russia are likely to try to punish US and reward themselves with an oil price as high as they can get it.
Saudi will play along with both sides.
The US might allow a very high oil price this year for a short-ish time in order to get the Aramco float.
hydraides,
I'm getting very confused here you seem to be arguing with yourself now in out / up down, called it right / wrong.. I hope you don't have a split personality going on but that might explain your comment about hoping the Russians fight the US and UK hard.
oldtimer,
Was there not an extra 23.8M of exceptionals in the FY17 results which put the reported pre tax down to 59M.
Is it not possible that this was the new CEO clearing the decks in order to build from a lower base ensuring his bonus is more than likely to be hit.
I've seen this happen on numerous occasions.
