As to the Volvo Penta outdrives, I believe that they are indeed fine pieces of kit. I don't think it would be necessary to travel to Poole to find a boatbuilder or marine engineer to agree with that. The twin drives are are designed to work with twin high revving modern engines though, not a single, venerable, slow revving Bolinder semi-diesel. Never mind, if you have somehow managed to make the lash up work, good for you. That is quite a teat of engineering. It does not alter the fact that the Bolinder would still work much better with a single, fairly coarse pitch, large diameter prop though.

The Bolinder won't mate at all well with twin Volvo Penta outdrives. It is a wholly inappropriate power source for them. Still, I have to concede that you must be quite an engineer if you have made that combination work at all. I think most marine engineers will tell you though that you have made a wholly misguided choice of final drive for a Bolinder, even if you have somehow made the combination work, after a fashion.

No wonder 'the English engineer' is so well known around Kefalos! I bet the locals can scarcely believe their eyes.

I think you must have cribbed that one from the 'takeover' analysis yesterday on the ADVFN board, though I note that you did at least expect only a spike, not a sustained rise in the QBT SP. What on earth do you think a tie up between Nvidia and Intel is going to do for QBT's business?

As to 'keep your faith', 'Faith' is not an investment strategy. Even reading exhaust puffs is better than mere faith.

How does a purchase today at Xp improve a purchase made yesterday at 2Xp? The profit or loss on the original purchase will remain the same.

The only reason for making any purchase, whether an addition to an existing holding, or a new holding, is an expectation that the price will rise from the price at which the new purchase is made.

I hope he doesn't overdo the olive oil.There are limits to what even a Bolinder can run on. I am expecting a plea for help at any moment if that engine packs up and he needs to use his Seagull outboard to get him home. I know how to start one, but I am not sure he does. Also the fuel /oil mixture needs to be right. One part 2 stroke oil to 10 parts petrol ( though if his oil and petrol containers are Imperial, it won't baulk at a pint of oil to a gallon of petrol).

He should use 2 stroke oil, but at a pinch standard sump oil will do, even castor oil, but NOT olive oil. If he uses castor oil though, the wind had better not be behind him on the way home, or he and everyone else on board will be fighting to be first in the queue for the taverna khazi when they arrive back! A Seagull exhausts the oil in the petrol unburned ,and inhaling castor oil has dramatic effects on the gut!

The Native Americans got their news from smoke signals from dung fires. OSD sees the future in the puffs of exhaust smoke from his venerable semi-diesel engine. The more heavily he cuts the fuel with old olive oil, the denser the exhaust puffs become, and the more clearly he sees a prosperous future for QBT and its shareholders.

If that is good enough for him, I guess it should be good enough for the rest of us.

Considering that QBT's Tech was said to be proven and ready to roll out commercially two years ago, when Vlad was hired to great fanfare to flog it, it is remarkable that it was necessary to introduce it to potential users (who we had been told were 'very interested' for years), and that after 4 months of alleged demonstrations to [undisclosed] potential customers /partners /users we are apparently no further forward than we were two years ago. Can anyone tell me what became of the 'advanced negotiations' then, when the lawyers for QBT and some [unidentified] customer were said to be hard at work finalising contract terms? That all died the death without any announcement or explanation from QBT, like QBT's 'medium term plan' announced 18 months ago to design and manufacture its own specialist chips.

History tells us that it is likely we shall never hear any more about this year's alleged demonstrations and expected commercial contracts. The whole episode will be quietly forgotten, as though it had never happened. Perhaps it did not happen.

Roll on the next capital raise, and the next performance bonus for Gardin! And a few more consultancies for his jobless mates, to 'raise QBT's profile'.

PS If you do ever need t re-engine from the Bolinder, I can't speak too highly of the old 6 cylinder Gardner. I only use mine as an auxiliary, but it would be even happier with more running time as a main engine. Utterly reliable, beautifully engineered to last for ever, and every bit as sound as when it was made half a century back.

I wouldn't risk cutting the fuel with olive oil though - I doubt it has quite the omniverous digestive system of the Bolinder!

We do have something in common, anyway. I enjoy the sound of a Bolinder too and admire its repairability, though unfortunately I am not engineer enough to contemplate running one in my own boat. Also, they take too much effort to start if one is using an engine only as an auxiliary and for arrival and departure from constricted water.

I envy OSD, sitting contentedly beside his old Bolinder semi-diesel in his khaki shorts and string vest, a roll up on his lip and the next tucked ready behind his ear, and a bottle of ouzo to hand. An occasional glance to check the colour of those distinctive exhaust puffs to make sure he didn't over cut the diesel he siphoned from Stelios' truck with the old olive oil he got from the taverna, and otherwise nothing else to do but enjoy the slow steady thump of the world's best engine. The Bolinder may not be as fuel efficient as a modern engine, and tricky to start, but it will run on just about anything and can be kept going for ever by an engineer of he old school with a handful of tools. Bliss! Why should he fret over the QBT SP?
