If my average share cost is 500 and the yield 5% then it matters not that the share price then sinks to 400 because I won't have sold and my investment is still based on what I paid and my return is still 5%.

They're not necessarily bad but share buy backs are an alternative to spending the money on growth and/or dividends. Also they can be used to inflate the share price giving a false impression. That said I believe AHT's buyback is a sign of management confidence rather than otherwise.

Got a few more in this morning after reading up as much as I could on this co. Don't like share buy backs much but it seems to be a trend in the USA and AHT announced theirs in 12/2017. I guess Trump will see Florida gets the help it needs if not Puerto Rico.

He could be said to have achieved something in that under Andrew Moss the company would have been a complete shipwreck. Under Wilson it is merely dismasted and drifting aimlessly while the crew run out of food and water.

We blame Wilson, but his appointment, monitoring his performance and the strategy of Aviva is non-executive responsibility. They will have submitted to Wilson's appointment to Blackrock's board and his detrimental plan to repurchase preference shares. They have also failed to anticipate his departure or plan for a successor.

There a lot more wrong than just Wilson and now thanks to the fall in the sp the company has a substantial number of disgruntled shareholders. What can we do about it? Why aren't the institutional investors kicking up?

Wilson, one needs to consider peripheral factors just like when one is driving! ;)

Anyway, just had a look at the BRAKE website. They were advising legislation for DMS in 2016 but that seems to be as far as it got. Their campaigns don't seem to include pressing for mandatory fitment.

They do mention

There is no mention of technology playing any part and it occurred to me that a driver monitoring system might be able to detect a driver without adequate long range (or indeed peripheral) vision.

Anyway I shall contact them, as I did RoSPA.

Without wishing to pre-judge the matter, it must be becoming increasingly unacceptable not to fit freely available safety technology.

On checking the RoSPA site I could find very little about recent action beyond a 5 year old paper on telematics and something about tyre pressure monitoring. I have written to ask for further information.

I've a dozen stocks of which eleven are red right now. Defensive stocks probably suffering least. Companies can do what they like but if the sharks want to feed elsewhere, try and stop them.

You might say that car makers are simply car makers. They certainly haven't reinvented the wheel either. My automotive shares suggest it's about time they bloody well did.

It must be a buying opportunity at some stage or we are really stuffed. And I am not just talking about SEE.
