Xi Jingping, China’s president, will make his first trip abroad since the beginning of the pandemic this week, the country’s foreign ministry confirmed. From Wednesday, Mr Xi will visit Kazakhstan and then Uzbekistan, which is hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, will also be in attendance, giving the pair the chance to meet for the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine. Hmmm!
