The report suggested that an interested party was looking at BooHoo. Is that so difficult to believe? I would have thought several groups are looking at BooHoo, including the management team. The Betaville website is a subscription site, and the posts don’t appear after an anonymous phonecall.

A lot of talk about THG being a false rumour, but that Moulding could be talking to private equity is no real surprise. Neither company will stay priced at these levels for very long.

Seen it all before. Price is only relevant if you want to sell. If BooHoo were a private business no shareholder would be talking about valuation, and no business owner would dream of selling when the business is going through a rough patch.

I haven’t been calling anything short term. I’ve never mentioned a price that it could go to or will go to. What I’ve said consistently is that the issues facing BooHoo are resolvable, and that those holding the shares or buying at these levels will do well over time, as long as they are patient. When you have an organised and coordinated shorters on your share register then your SP can go way beyond an objective value of the business. If BooHoo announced they were in talks to sell you would see a violent upward correction in the SP. I don’t expect this, mentioned as an example.

Glencore operate in the murkiest sector, with the murkiest of characters.

The technicals on Glencore was terrible when it hit 85p a couple of years ago. It’s now over £4.

The technicals on 888 were terrible when it hit 28p. It was over £4 not so long ago.

There are many examples that I could add.

There is always a bear case, and with a poor update behind them it would be foolish to say otherwise. By my observation over the years is the when companies update positively boards get flooded with rampers, and when updates are poor they get flooded with doom mongers. Each with their own agendas.

More often than not, they are both wrong.

Comparisons between BooHoo and Findel make you look a bit desperate. Findel has a debt ratio of 75%, whereas BooHoo is around 3.6%. A company like Findel can get into trouble very quickly when it carries so much debt. That’s why it makes sense to avoid highly leveraged companies unless they have a monopoly position, like the local water company.

There is a bear case for BooHoo, but that point is desperate, and destroys the credibility of the poster.

I think anyone who believes that this shorting operation is over is deluding themselves. BooHoo will need several consistently good updates to dissuade them, or experience a SP surge like GameStop (which is unlikely). My suspicion is that many of them have access to results before anyone else does … anyone familiar with Steve Cohen’s SAC Capital will know what I’m talking about. It’s called “edge”, and no one on here has it. As much as I’d like to see that surge I think this will play out for some time yet. I’ll be interested to know what the picture is in 2024, when the supply chain crisis is essentially over and the pandemic is behind us. Inflation is a big issue now, but I’m in the camp that believes this will not be a repeat of the 70’s, and it will calm down in the second half of the year.

Benjamin Graham was so right with his “Mr Market” analogy, and PP1 is the living embodiment of Mr Market.

Like a bi-polar investor who goes from insane levels of optimism to insane levels of pessimism. As Graham explained, Mr Market is not their to guide you, he’s there to serve you. Take advantage of him when he’s at his most optimistic, but whatever you do don’t go under his spell.
