Just out of interest Tom would you be pleased to see the SP go up tomorrow or would you rather it went down? Speaking as someone who is currently on the sidelines I would love to see the share price plummet purely in order to re-enter the market but with you I strongly suspect its more a case of taking perverse pleasure from the misery of others.
Nige you've always come across as a decent sort of chap so I'm surprised that you've chosen to reference the Goldfinger post. Yes it MIGHT turn out to be true but as we both know it PROBABLY won't its not really worth mentioning. Anyway good news about the ADRs, the World Cup is just round the corner and I've just heard ITV have been nominated for some media awards.
How might I miss the bus? Is the share price going to rocket skywards in a single day or are they going to announce they've run out and they have no more shares for sale?
I've just sold all my ITV shares, bit disappointed really as had I sold them a couple of weeks ago I would have trousered £5k but in the event I've suffered a small loss - so hardly my finest hour. I fully intend to buy back in (quite possibly in the very near future) but think that due to all things covid share prices in general might well continue to fall further. Here's the thing if you scroll down you will find numerous posts from "experts" stating they will be topping up at circa £1.20 and buying some more tomorrow even though it looks probable that the share price, in common with most others, is very likely to go lower still. I don't get it, in the current climate why wouldn't you simply wait before topping up?
Wow, we are all starting to get a bit ratty with each other, hardly surprising given the SP and I too feel like venting my frustration but at the end of the day we are all responsible for our decisions and its not fair to blame a clown like 5eights/Ivan particularly as his half-baked theories have absolutely zero impact on the share price. I'm wresting with either selling now for a very small profit or hanging on in the hope that the SP hits my target price of £1.29. Not sure what to do and daresay I will make the wrong call but as I say ultimately it is my decision.
C'mon Ivan its been a tough few days and we all need a bit of a boost so tell us about the ADR's.
Ivan, what's the significance of these decent trades? Another concept I struggle with is "more buyers than sellers". Please enlighten me - preferably using plain English rather than cryptic clues.
No, I hadn't noticed - what are you talking about?
I'm fairly new to all this but should the BOD really care very much about the share price? I can see why the board would want to pay dividends whenever prudent but as for the actual share price itself why should they care?
All well and good Seights but the SP remains moribund and the only thing thats going to shift the dial (barring, please god, the long-awaited T/O) is an announcement re dividends - everything else is just frippery.
I'm underwater on this one now. Don't really want to take a loss so will hang on until SP is back in low 120's and then thats me done and dusted with ITV.
Fair enough, but roughly speaking how soon is soon ?
"the dollar printing press is still churning out worthless paper bills". The last time I checked dollar bills could still be used to buy all manner of goods and services so at time of writing they are hardly worthless.
I've noticed that Seights posts are always very well written with few spelling mistakes (puts me to shame) and I think its good of him to share both his research, sources and also a great deal of original thinking. Furthermore I'm sure his posts are submitted in good faith and I don't believe he is trying to mislead anyone, as it happens I think his theories are largely *******s but this is a discussion forum so that's fair enough in my book.
Takeover bids aside I think we will just have to be patient. With no immediate prospect of a dividend I imagine lots of big fund managers giving ITV a swerve for now.
Now the dust has settled I'm beginning to think that the banal truth is that markets are always forward looking and for obvious reasons that means there isn't a lot of love for ITV at present.
I've no ldea if todays results are good, excellent, or as pomegranate would have it "stellar" but I do know that on the day results are announced the SP doesn't always move in the way one might expect. This a general observation and not intended as being specific to ITV. I don't really understand these things but think it might be a bit like Chancellors Budget Day in as much as you get the instant reaction (be it positive or negative) but a few days later the consensus may be different. If these results really are encouraging I'd expect the SP to finish the week a wee bit higher than it is now. FWIW my ITV strategy is to sell the lot whenever they reach 130 with a view to buying back in again whenever they dip below 120. I know that means I may well miss out when the bid arrives but I'm happy to take that chance.
Nige, you come across as an eminently reasonable and sensible sort of chap but there is one thing I don't understand - if you think the game is rigged by market manipulators etc then why do you play? Reminds me of the bloke down the bookies who's happy to be regarded a genius when he wins but in the next breath will tell you its all fixed.
yes, l'm just hoping the share price drops sharply next week thus providing us with an even better opportunity for topping up. At the moment most of my shares are worth far less than I paid for them so happy days all round.
Thanks for the link Nige, it made for a very worthwhile read. Surely the share price should edge up a bit over the next few days?
