Plain common sense makes me very sceptical about the validity of those figures. Strikes me as a throwback to the days when people used to brag about how many hits their website had received.
Winstanly. Please explain the figure of 36 million to me. Does it mean roughly half the population has watched it? Coronation Street now attracts a viewing audiences of less than 3 million so I would love to know how you arrive at a figure of 36 million for a programme I've never heard of.
Apologies if this has already been discussed but where do we stand as regards the dividend?
"Well done Jed. By saying she is staying on you have wiped 3% from ITV in 30 minutes". That must surely be the silliest thing Tom has ever posted. Nothing written on here will ever have any sort of impact on the share price.
Lifted from the BBC. "About 2.6 million watched Coronation Street at 7pm on ITV1, down from nearly eight million a decade ago and 2.8 million last year". No doubt Winstanley thinks another 18 million will watch it via the ground breaking ITVX platform - which is not to be confused with the vastly inferior hub offering.
I've often wondered about the current worth of Itvs archives and back catalogue. Speaking as someone who has trawled through ITVX on several occasions I don't think the old content is really worth very much at all. Many of the programmes we have fond memories of now just look second rate and I can't see it being of much interest to the streaming giants. Perhaps we could off load most of it onto Talking Pictures TV?
"There is no way on gods earth the big tv companies won’t put in a bid now." Wow, well that certainly comes as a huge relief to me - I know it sounds daft but I was starting to worry that I might end up being out of pocket on this one.
Just came across an interesting piece on the challenges facing itv in todays Guardian online.
When a football team isn't getting results they usually sack the manager, regardless of whether they deserve it or not, as desperate times call for desperate measures. Methinks its time for a change of leadership.
The headlines would suggest that nothing much has changed yet the SP takes another dive, ITVX was never going to make a fat lot of difference one way or the other - its really no big deal. Barring a takeover I can't see any way the SP gets back to the level I bought in at.
It can't help that viewing figures are in long-term, and probably irreversible decline. I'm afraid we've all backed the wrong horse here. Woe is me.
I see the share price is down again this morning. I suppose the main consolation for long suffering shareholders is that Aspers has personally guaranteed the SP won't get much lower - otherwise I might be starting to worry.
What a shame Russell Brand isn't an ITV stalwart - Tom would have had a field day with that. Hopefully better luck with the next one.
Earlier today Maidit posted "sensible conversation please as to what could be going on" - marvellous stuff.
None whatsoever, I was just being sarcastic and goading PPinvestor ,our resident expert on chance and probability, who despite all the facts persisted in describing Cine as a fifty-fifty bet when it was obviously more like a 1000/1 shot.
PPinvestor, We might still get some unexpected good news or then again we might not which by my reckoning makes this a fifty-fifty bet, what do you think?
Fear not Maidit is reporting that share price is up 42% in US and I've just spoken to Ian Harding who assures me there are a lot more twists and turns still to come as it would seem all the legal experts have overlooked the simple fact that American Court rulings have absolutely no relevance over here. Worry not Ian H knows best.
MIKODX, What sort of reaction do you expect to get from your family and friends when you advise them to stop frequenting a certain cinema chain? I think I would be a bit bemused to say the least.
By Cine standards the share price seems to been very stable of late which I suppose must make life difficult for people hoping to use this as a vehicle for day trading.
Tom, I love the insights into your personal life, please tell us more about the stint you did working with the Israeli Defence Force.
