Baits - No. Thats why you use the 2” coiled tubing to pump nitrogen at the end of the reservoir and displace all the well fluid out of the well....the remaining void gives the hydrocarbons in the formation a path of least resistance and naturally wants to flow to surface ...hence hydrocarbons at surface.

The completion (suspension fluid) left in the well when Cuadrilla left would exert a greater force than the pressure exerted by the formation....which stops the shale from coming in. This is classed as an overbalanced well.

An under balanced well would be where your formation exerted a pressure greater than the fluid in the well and would apply pressure (in drilling this is classed as a kick).

Angus Energy Commences Well Test at Balcombe

First Hydrocarbons to Surface

Angus Energy plc (LSE:ANGS), a leading UK conventional oil and gas production and development company, is pleased to announce the flow test of the horizontal well, Balcombe-2z,  has commenced. First hydrocarbons have flowed to surface as expected in normative operations. Following completion, the Company will report results of the flow test in due course.

I'm happy that the flow test was allowed to take place, that we got all the equipment in to the site without interference from protesters and we stuck to the timelines that Angus gave. We are now testing the well on time and as promised.

This is what i'm focusing on:

Horse Hills’ Upper Kimmeridge Limestone was only perforated for 88ft…..yes thats correct only 88ft of exposure and had stabilised dry oil rate of 901bopd.

Balcombe is a horizontal well and with its slotted liner (pre-drilled holes) is exposed to +/- 1,700ft of Upper Kimmeridge Limestone. That’s 19 times more exposure than at Horse Hill who observed 901bopd from only 88ft.

This will be the Wealds FIRST horizontal flow test of the Kimmeridge Limestone.
