Business Update
Seeing Machines Limited (AIM: SEE, "Seeing Machines" or the "Company"), the advanced computer vision technology company that designs AI-powered operator monitoring systems to improve transport safety, provides a business update ahead of its Capital Markets Day being held in London today.
Highlights
§ Automotive supply chain strengthened through renewed supply agreement with Xilinx
§ Guardian hardware cost reduction following collaboration with manufacturer
§ Growing momentum in Fleet through increased network of distributors and expansion into additional fields of use
Automotive
Seeing Machines is pleased to announce that its FOVIO Driver Monitoring Chip ("FOVIO Chip") strategy has been bolstered by a renewed supply agreement with its chip supply partner, Xilinx (NASDAQ: XLNX). The FOVIO Chip is currently committed to three ongoing automotive OEM programs, two in North America and one in China.
This agreement will see Xilinx now supply the FOVIO Chip directly to Seeing Machines' automotive Tier 1 customers. This is anticipated to reduce both supply chain qualification complexity and realise related cost savings for FOVIO Chip customers and eliminate the supply chain risks and costs associated with direct supply of the FOVIO Chip by Seeing Machines for the Company.
Seeing Machines, through Xilinx, will remain the sole provider of the FOVIO Chip solution for the automotive industry, and expects that its FOVIO Chip will continue to appeal to customers looking to deploy new Driver Monitoring Systems quickly with minimal integration risk, thereby enabling advanced driver assistance and safe semi-automated driving systems.
In order to leverage the Company's driver monitoring technology across Aviation and Fleet and enhance the products and solutions currently offered in those markets, Seeing Machines retains the right to procure FOVIO Chips directly from Xilinx at previously agreed commercial terms.
Fleet
Seeing Machines has worked with its Guardian manufacturing partner to reduce the manufacturing cost of Guardian, the Company's driver monitoring technology for commercial vehicles.
The Guardian unit hardware cost has been reduced by 21%. This reduction is expected to deliver savings of approximately A$8.4 million on its upcoming negotiated volume order which is to be delivered in batches to Seeing Machines and its channel partners over the next calendar year, to meet expected global demand. Seeing Machines is currently channelling 70% of Guardian sales through a growing network of distributors.
The Company is also working closely with insurance companies in Australia and Mexico, and is in advanced conversations with others in three additional geographies. These insurers have either already endorsed Guardian as the preferred safety technology for commercial fleets, or are lookin

Seeing Machines awarded expanded program for DMS with existing OEM customer
Seeing Machines Limited (AIM: SEE, "Seeing Machines" or the "Company"), the advanced computer vision technology company that designs AI-powered operator monitoring systems to improve transport safety, has been selected by a new Tier 1 supplier to deliver its FOVIO driver monitoring platform into a new generation architecture addressing additional car models for an existing European OEM customer.
Production for the additional car models is scheduled from 2022, with incremental revenue expected to exceed A$23m.
Seeing Machines' FOVIO driver monitoring platform uses advanced machine vision technology to precisely
measure and analyse head pose, eyelid movements and eye-gaze under a full spectrum of demanding lighting conditions, including through sunglasses. This data is processed to interpret driver attention state, focus, drowsiness and impairment levels to provide ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) with critical inputs in real time.
Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) technology is set to become standard technology in most modern passenger cars for improved driver and semi-automated driving safety as it continues to be recognised by industry and regulatory groups such as the European Commission and New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
Nick DiFiore, SVP & GM Automotive, Seeing Machines commented: "We are delighted to be expanding our footprint with an existing OEM customer as we demonstrate our versatility in adapting to their diverse integration needs across vehicle models. We are also excited to be working with a new Tier 1 supplier as we further grow our automotive supply chain relationships."
Seeing Machines now counts nine automotive OEM production awards spanning a broad range of car and truck models with six OEM customers. Working closely with a growing ecosystem of Tier 1 partners, the Company now expects these programs to deliver over A$200m in revenue.

Increased automation benefits Walmart
Jamal Carnette, CFA (Walmart): At first glance, it may seem nonsensical to include Walmart as a company slated to benefit from autonomous vehicles instead of an automaker or a chip manufacturer. However, to not include Walmart as a winner in the shift to driverless vehicles is missing the forest for the trees: Autonomous vehicles will eventually eliminate the need for human drivers. Outside of shipping companies directly, can you envision a company better poised to benefit from lower transportation and delivery costs?
After years of ceding e-commerce, current CEO Doug McMillon was no longer content to lose this critical channel and paid approximately $3.3 billion for Amazon's biggest rival, Jet.com, in a cash-and-stock transaction in 2016. Autonomous vehicles could be the final link to becoming a true competitor with Amazon, lowering costs not only for distribution-center delivery but also for the critical last-mile component. This is the hidden piece that will allow Walmart's nearly 4,800 stores to become single-day (or faster) delivery outposts, putting tremendous pressure on Amazon.
Walmart understands this and has been steadily partnering with autonomous vehicle companies, with an eye on grocery delivery, presumably because its numerous store locations give it a natural advantage over Amazon in perishable delivery. As fellow Fool Leo Sun notes, the company partnered with Alphabet's Waymo to bring customers to grocery stores and entered into a pilot with Ford's driverless cars in Miami to deliver groceries. Walmart is in the driver's seat to benefit from a world in which nobody is in a driver's seat.
