I believe there were many protests in Russian cities yesterday against the Ukrainian invasion. 2,000 arrests. If a wimp like Trudeau can crush a revolution using bully boy tactics and by freezing the bank accounts of citizens, what on Earth makes you think that Putin can’t control his own people?

But the West was much stronger then. After years of quantitative easing and the accumulation of eye-watering levels of debt, I wouldn’t fancy our chances against the combined threat of China and Russia - be that economically or militarily.

My musings… Putin has got the West dependent on Russian energy and energy is the basis for economic strength. In response to previous sanctions, Russia withdrew all USD assets from its sovereign wealth fund - a move applauded by China who seek to be issue an alternative global reserve currency. I can’t help wondering…what if Russia and China collude to bring down the USD and break the West economically? What if they decide to issue an alternative reserve currency backed by their ample stocks of gold (in the case of China) and precious rare Earth metals. How would Putin guarantee his supply of those? Hope I’m wrong. I confess I am a conspiracy theorist, but as I keep hearing, conspiracy theory is another expression for ‘spoiler alert’.

We block him out of global banking system (the current threat from NATO) and he grinds that system to a halt - possibly crashing the USD while he’s at it.
