At the end of WW2, the USA persuaded other powers to accept USD as the global reserve currency on the basis that they would never print more than could be backed by the gold reserves held at Fort Knox. No idea what Fort Knox contains, but I have a suspicion that QE has over-stepped the mark by many trillions. Meanwhile, China, India, Russia have been buying and hoarding precious metals.
We are broke.

But if USD is no longer global reserve currency, their economy starts to look a lot more fragile - especially after 14 years of the QE experiment.
