I sold my holding in PHE in April, having decided that AVCT (with its Covid attractions) was going to happen more quickly than the Great Green Reset (which I assumed could only happen after the pandemic was over! If the appearance of the new variant is one of the reasons for delay in our timeline, it would be useful if AS could put out an RNS confirming that our tests will be able to capture it without difficulty. Al probably thinks he’s already covered the subject of viral mutations for us previously, but this latest one has been so talked up that it needs addressing specifically. NYCT was up 10% yesterday on confirmation that PCR identifies the new variant.

Wyndrum, indeed, it is this closer scrutiny that makes it harder for any new test coming to market. It has to be ‘perfect’ and I don’t see how any test can be considered perfect if PCR is retained as the gold standard against which all other tests are judged. There is a basic flaw built into the process if the gold standard test is itself not fit for purpose.

Interesting article though. Curious to see how ODX and ABDX share prices react. It was Guardian criticism that did for BooHoo!

“ * New rapid tests for detecting SARS-CoV-2 are important, but their performance for population screening would need to be carefully evaluated in asymptomatic people in field settings ie, not simply in laboratory setting using ideal samples.”

This cynicism from the establishment scientific community is what Avacta is up against! (As well as the constant whingeing from shareholders,)

This briefing note to journalists on Operation Moonshot from Pollock, Deeks et al seems to stick the knife into the policy of national population screening before it even starts on grounds. The napped raises concerns about: cost, inadequacy of current diagnostic tests, difficulty of identifying the infectious asymptomatic, fact that programme has been drawn up without input from the U.K. national Screening Committee or endorsement by WHO or SAGE, danger of losing public confidence if procurement process is less than transparent etc. It’s a useful insight into how journalists are being briefed behind the scenes to attack the programme and shows just how much pressure the ‘Moonshot’ test producers are under to produce something bulletproof.

Again, I agree Neutronic. I believe that the tie in with HMG is based on all three potential diagnostic uses of affimers. Consequently, I think that a single mega-RNS in early 2021 will update us on commercial and S&S results for Elisa, BAMS and LFD (swab and saliva versions) all at the same time. Hold for gold. It will be transformational.

Totally agree Neutronic, I believe we’re gearing up to a major announcement whereby BAMS is introduced as the replacement for the increasingly discredited PCR. The new Gold Standard for testing, developed in the U.K. and easy to roll out to hospitals and unis everywhere. A post Brexit moment for Boris to savour. Can almost imagine him lighting up a cigar and giving the V sign to the press.

More likely concluded than dropped. Why would you drop some and continue with others? Doesn’t make sense. Anyway, AS hardly sounds downbeat about it with ‘significant commercial progress’ mentioned in the same sentence as BAMS.
