Is this what really happened? Who is GKI?12 Feb 2020 00:49
Yesterday’s spike which again allowed retail investors to be suckered in and insiders to sell (Again) seems to now have been based on Shetty asking his crony mate at GKSD to put out a statement saying he’s interested in making a bid and exaggerating KKR interest which was never for the whole company but specific assets.
who’s GK Investment Holding Group? Well, it’s this chap.
Tunisian businessman Kamel Ghribi was, according to his personal website, president of Attock Oil Company, which he exited in 2005 to “to devote all of his time to his new company GK Investment Holding Group based in Switzerland”. Between GK’s corporate website and Mr Ghribi’s vanity site there’s a history, an epiphanic journey, a subject-hopping blog, a parish newsletter, a gallery, and a media page that hasn’t been updated since 2018. GK says it offers services including interior design, communication and “vision”. Unhelpfully, GK doesn’t list its current investments and its name doesn’t turn up even once in a regulatory filing search. Mr Ghribi meanwhile has had a low profile in media other than his own websites: there have only been a couple of local press mentions since this 2002 WSJ story about doing business in Colonel Gaddafi’s Libya, which followed a Corriere della Sera story in 1998 on the same subject.
Another thing worth noting perhaps is Mr Ghribi’s involvement with the MENA division of Gruppo Ospedaliero San Donato, the Italian private hospital operator that has a tie-up with BRS Ventures Investment, BR Shetty’s holding company. Here they are together at the Middle East Mediterranean Summer Summit 2018 in Lugano:
