In the UK we run numeracy and literacy classes for adults, I'm guessing the same exist in Australia? Perhaps it may be worth signing up?

RK, my next door neighbour is a nuclear physicist who has spent his entire working life on nuclear fusion. He explained it to me once - I understood one word in ten - but the long and the short of it is we are still a way off achieving anything like a practical solution, but, it will definitely happen. In his working life he's seen it go from a theory to actually seeing it happen, and with some justification he's proud of the work the UK has done. The race to provide a working solution is between us, the USA, Germany and France. He says we and the Germans are closer and the French are barking up the wrong tree - for a change.

Tesla, I'm talking about scale, not what is currently a minority activity. I know you're very keen on your EV, but I could point you in the direction of very many who are not. But that's not the point. This country will not be prepared for 2030, or get anywhere near it and it's time our leaders re-thought the daft and arbitrary date. By the way, they will change their minds on this, but they'll prevaricate for as long as possible, causing havoc in the motor industry in the meantime.

The heat pump thing is interesting. I live in a listed, part early 17th century house and I couldn't have a heat pump even if I wanted one. In fact, listing restrictions mean I can't even fit proper insulation. And then there's the issue of the millions of people who live in flats...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of doing stuff to reduce the cost of living, but what concerns me is the cost and practicality of getting to that point and at the moment we are not even remotely near being capable of delivering, and such is my disdain for our politicians, we won't be in my lifetime.

Q, in part, that was my argument. If the price makes it unviable to produce batteries, for example, no one will make them and net zero will remain a pipe dream.

RK, the copper situation is baffling.

There's literally no one who is saying anything other than a chronic copper shortage is on the way - and not in the distant future, but in a few years time. And yet there appears to be virtually no urgency whatsoever in terms of the behaviour of governments or the major mining companies. It's as if they think the issue will somehow resolve itself by some sort of magic.

If governments really are committed to the concept of net zero (a total nonsense in my view) then they are actually going to have to do something about the supply of the essential ingredients of its delivery. But they aren't, and when the sh*t hits the air conditioning in a few years time, the politicians of the day will spend their time in a state of wild panic whilst simultaneously blaming everyone except themselves.

This isn't some sort of fanciful dream, it's going to happen, and how will the price of those commodities react? Well, you don't have to be a learned economist or central banker to know the answer.

Until the question of supply is answered, net zero is a complete fantasy.

Tesla, your point about squeezing explorers is a valid one, particularly when the majors have dropped doing much of their own exploration and have come to rely on others to do it for them.

However, much of the emphasis here over the past few years has been an attempt to prise ourselves from the grip of BHP/NCM, and I'd argue we've been reasonably successful in so doing. So much so, both of them have done as much as they could to disrupt our progress. It'll take some fancy footwork to avoid the scenario you paint, but I'm reasonably confident that between Caldwell and Sangha they can pull it off.

Tesla, oh, but I'm not. If you had a look at quite a few of my posts you'll have noted that many of them have been quite sceptical, particularly in the NM and DC eras. (I voted against NM at the fateful AGM) You would also note that I've said I agree with elements of both Bozi's and DM's eloquent arguments.

I will openly admit that when DC was first appointed I was enthusiastic, but this was largely due to wanting to see the back of Mather. However, it didn't take too long to realise DC was a disaster (I think it was his first interview or presentation which did it for me). Caldwell seems like he knows what he's doing and appears to be a competent individual, and he has the backing of the board and Sangha. So, yes, I'm more confident now than I was under previous regimes, but I'm not daft enough to be unaware of the risks.

Nal, I'll help you out.

1) 'something's going on in the background'. This is self-evidently true. Unless, of course, you believe Caldwell is sitting around twiddling his thumbs. It may come as a surprise to you, but an awful lot happens in a public company that the ordinary shareholder is unaware of.

2) 'People wouldn't invest in Solg if it wasn't a good prospect'. I see, so people have invested because they think it's a basket case? Interesting investment strategy.

3) 'Several majors have accessed the data room'. This is a statement from Caldwell. Is he lying? Perhaps you should take legal action against him for making misleading statements.

4) 'We've signed several ndas'. Again, this is from the horses mouth.

5) 'The Chinese/BHP are coming'. You're mistaking me for another investor.

As Eloro has pointed out, your presence on this board is a complete mystery and I can only speculate that you've lost a lot of money and are now lashing out like a petulant teenager. Or perhaps you went to school with Mather and he kept nicking your packed lunch?

His point about everyone being onside and pulling in the same direction is a revealing. We know what he, SC and Irwin want, so it seems pretty clear what they're aiming for.
