Pretty great investment at this level and yield. 12 to 18 months ago you would snatch someone’s hand off for this type of yield in what is one of the safer stocks on the ftse. 🤷🏻‍♂️ can see this being back up and offering a lower yield in a couple years.

What’s wrong with Just long term diamond handing this share ? Reinvesting divis while low, and then just collecting high cash yield income for life if the SP recovers ? In time I can see this going higher than a recovery. Hopefully one day 206p will seem a pittance.

Corbyn was the last leader to propose renationalising broadband in a manifesto . Amongst other things.

Apart from being extremely difficult verging on impossible, it was extremely expensive to do. First the purchase of Bt , and then the billions in funding which would increase tenfold under nationalised inefficiency and mismanagement costs. So how much would all that little venture cost mandy, since you’re so certain it will happen.

Oh it won’t, because the tories would never nationalise , and Labour since corbyns departure have said it was a dud policy.

In the current climate of inflation vs savings rate, over a 5 year period a bond holder could see their savings decline massively in value.

When inflation was low and interest rates , the gap between the two was minimal. Hence you could see your savings stagnate but not lose value against inflation. Meanwhile shares were overpriced at that time.

Therefore and this is only my reasoning, while yields are high and SP low it’s better to take that risk now rather than lock in erosion with a bond.

If not now to invest in stocks, when should we take that risk?

If you sign up for a 5 year growth bond at 3% a year, and then see rates rise, you don’t moan you could have got more.

So why do we moan if SP drops after we bought?

If you get 8-11% a year on phnx and the SP drops, you can reinvest. If you end up holding for 5 years, until the sp recovers (in theory/potentially) , you have made much more in return and possible sp increase too.

If you are locked into a 5 year bond how is it any different to being locked in a share until it recovers ?

That’s why you buy shares. Potential to up or down for an undefined period and in return get potential higher yield than interest , and capital gain.

I’d reinvesting dividends , a few years of subdued share prices can’t be bad. More shares to sell when they recover, or more dividend income in the long term.

I want the latter

I have a few different holdings albeit I’m way overweight on Bt.

Theory behind it , all divi payers but if one outperforms I can sell it and transfer to the other with the view that will in turn rise.

If all in one basket you can’t do that.

I wouldn’t sell all my Bt shares I want the yearly income as a pension eventually, but I would reduce and rebalance in another stock.

Fleccy wouldn’t you buy something else? Like phnx abdn lgen aviva or house builders? As oppposed to more Bt vod or Lloyds

Porsche is saying the same thing on lots of boards. He’s also personally a nasty attacker of individuals.
