Cosh... LSE (and AIM for that matter) might not be the best place for a newbie PI... As you might have noticed, I don't believe in taking LSE very seriously.
There are many ways to make money on the stock market, but there are even more ways to lose it, so be careful.
I'd say, if you have a good macroeconomic background, then you can play on trends. If you have industry-specific knowledge, use that edge to focus on the industry and pick the winners. If you have trading skills, then play the volumes, but most folk lose money on it.
Don't chase rainbows and don't give in to the herd panic when something's going up or down.
And if it's messing with your head, just sell - your health is not worth it.
