That's an interesting theory - they could have been looking for a barren area and struck gold literally and that's why we have seen the ramp up of drill pads in the recents days Hmmm

Seems a lot of drill pads have appeared in a cluster in the area where the basement cover is less than the main site

Stu, this was the statement at the end of the last report from Newcrest

'Further work is planned to evaluate exploration opportunities that extend the known mineralisation. Initial drilling conducted by Newcrest has confirmed higher grade mineralisation, broadened mineralised extents defined by prior drilling and extended the depth of observed mineralisation of the Havieron prospect. The results of drilling to date
indicate the limits of mineralisation have been closed off to the east, and south, and remain open to the north, and at depth. Drilling programs at Havieron are ongoing with eight drill rigs currently in operation.'

To me the important words in there are 'the results of drilling to date'

Even the Sprott report from last January said that misses were to be expected and didn't necessarily mean that the edges had been found.

It could well be sterilisation drilling but seems to me to be a lot of pads to have appeared in just over a week especially if they are planning for the end of this year or early next year as previously guided.

That I'm not sure about Spratt - at what stage does it become material to a company like Newcrest - whatever is going on there it's obviously worthy of further investigation as that's a big cluster of drill pads to appear in a little over a week.

Hi all - exciting stuff watching the gold price action today.

I was looking at the new drill-pads in the SW and looked where they were in relation to the regional map which shows the basement depth contours.

Why do we think Newcrest have peppered that area in the last 2 weeks - could it be sterilisation drilling for a decline or could it possibly be another shallower target??

It'll be interesting to see when they start to build something more direct and substantial - probably not for a while yet.

Would they be able to build a straight graded road (bulldoze through the dunes etc) or would they need to follow the contours of the land like the access track does?

value - the road from Havieron to Telfer goes pretty much through Scallywag. I have traced the path of it on Google Earth - link here.

I think what you are seeing is just the volume of traffic that is now making the journey from Telfer - they might have even upgraded the road to cope with all the extra traffic.

I've just done the same as Oldtimer from earlier and overlaid the latest 'sump' satellite from the 10th with the latest 'rigs' satellite from the 7th. It all lines up spot on and doing a quick count it's seems to me that here may well be 9 rigs in position and could that green blob on the roadway be a 10th one heading to the drill site?? That would tie up nicely with Chartbuster's info - could be that the rigs had to self-isolate after travelling from the NT and were only heading into site last week perhaps??

I wonder if NCM will confirm that they have upped the rig count to 10 in the 30th April update - how bullish would that be??

We should get 3 more 'sumps' images and 1 more 'rigs' image before the 30th so it will be interesting to see what develops.

That's the way the gifs seem to come out - They don't seem to include the nice greens and pinks like the image in the EO Browser, I think you can get the general idea of how the rigs have moved around the site every 12 days since last May and you can see when the activity has stepped up from 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 as they've gone through the program up to now.

Guys - just logged on to see the new dataset that is available from the Sentinel satellite - value_seeker absolutely stunning. great work. Another brilliant insight into what is going on at Havieron.

The dates of both updates are not exactly the same so there will be discrepancies on where some the 'rigs' are located in relation to the 'sump pits' from the Sentinel 2 images but you can definitely make out the locations of the equipment and it ties up almost perfectly as you can see from Oldtimers overlay (I can officially retire now lol).

I think the random 'bright spots' that you can see between the camp and the drill sites are probably vehicles travelling in & out to the site as the satellite passes overhead - they seem to line up pretty well with the tracks.

I will do a time-lapse of the 'new dataset' and post a link in a bit.

Either way Bamps it's good news for us IMO.

1) More mineralisation in a new zone is obviously great for us if proven up.
2) If they are starting the decline planning (and most people I have spoken to think it's a little early for that) then it proves beyond doubt they are deadly serious about getting this mine into production within a couple of years.

Yes mate - I've just zoomed in to where you are talking about and that is the Telfer main dome open pit. Just to give an idea of scale that hole is almost 2.5km long.
The other smaller hole to the left is the West dome open pit and that is almost 1.5km long.
It just gives an idea of the sheer size and scale of this operation. It's easy to see why Newcrest need to secure a high grade ore feed in order to keep this behemoth going.

Hi lebugue - you can't miss Telfer - just zoom out until you see it appear on the West side of the screen.
I always think it reminds me of the Starship Enterprise, with the big round tailings lake and the body of the mine behind it.
If you then zoom into Telfer you can see the airstrip, accommodation village and the processing facilities all dotted around the great big hole in the ground.
