To be fair when it comes to understanding the significance of having to maintain a "countercyclical buffer" I have no idea what that really means. I just hope that having to do it doesn't mean hanging on to all the cash. Id prefer buybacks and a half decent dividend.

another way of looking at the problem is that new variants will continue to emerge while there are largely unvaccinated populations. Even though this is not true of the UK it underlines the importance of worldwide vaccine equity and we are not even close to approaching that. When we do I think it will be motivated because of the risk they present to us, not out of regard for the risk they face themselves. It could be argued that a similar set of values were behind our governments policy of "everyone in" last year.

It is not known for sure about the severity of symptoms yet, but its high transmissibility already shows in a 2-3 day doubling time.

Agreed, if the quadrupling of CITRA budget is real news I am surprised they would accelerate a completely unproven team and project so quickly. Lots of reputational risks to LLOY if they screw up as a housing provider , not to mention the obvious financial consequences.

i think the concern is that this variant emerged from infections in immuno-compromised patients and unlike the UK, South Africa has a very high number of untreated and in some cases undiagnosed HIV positive cases. There are many other things that can lead to compromised immunity.

You make no acknowledgement of first world responsibility and you don't generally return a counter argument; you just express scorn and derision.
You blame rice growers but you don't mention carnivores. You blame irrigation. You blame migrants. Who you gonna blame in 18 and a half years time, when your palms are getting sweaty?
Imagine, all the money and all the blaming other people doesn't buy you any more time?

I didn't live through the Cuban Missile Crisis but assumed it must have been terrifying. My father talked about sirens on building roof tops. I still think a nuclear war or accident is a present risk now as it was then. I don't see that as being taken in, any more than I do by the warnings the evidence is giving us of mass extinctions, overexploitation of natural resources and climate crisis. I have no problem about what you may believe. Arguing just entrenches each position though.

main ambition is neutrality by 2050. Still expected to overshoot 1.5 deg warming but then reduce. The difference in taking action or not taking action right now is not about being dead in ten years, but that life gets considerably harder on earth for future generations.
Theres an easily obtainable alibi from all this responsibility. You just need to deride the science.
